Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 212

She exploded, her voice shaking with anger. "You heartless witch! You ruined my mom, and now you want my husband dead too? Why don’t you just drop dead yourself!"

"Emmy, what’s wrong with you?"

Dean finally snapped out of it, rushed over, and yanked the stool out of her hands, shoving her hard to the side.

Emmy crashed onto the tile floor, pain shooting up her arm as her elbow scraped the cold ground, skin tearing open.

The commotion brought a crowd of doctors and nurses running to the door.

"What happened here?"

"Is everyone okay?"

Dean forced a steady voice. "It’s fine, just a misunderstanding."

Emmy scrambled up, ready to make a run for it. But Dean grabbed her before she could get away and slammed the door shut behind them.

"Hel—"

She barely got the first syllable out before Dean slapped a hand over her mouth.

"Don’t shout! I’m not going to hurt you."

Emmy froze, glaring. Dean let her go, his expression ice cold.

"What did you hear out there? Did you hear everything?"

Her heart was pounding, but she kept her face calm, shooting a glare at Claudia.

"I was just walking by to grab some medicine. All I heard was her saying she wanted James dead."

Of course, there was no way she’d admit she’d heard the whole thing.

These three were all completely unhinged. If they could plot to kill James, they could easily get rid of her too.

She’d totally lost her mind for a second—all she could think about was making that vicious woman pay.

This had to be the most reckless thing Emmy had ever done, in any lifetime.

Evelina finally snapped out of her shock, screaming as she rushed over.

"Mom! Mom, you’re hurt! There’s so much blood—oh God, you’re bleeding!"

She dropped to the floor next to Claudia, helping her sit up, her hand coming away sticky with blood from her mother’s forehead.

"That’s enough. Go back to your room. Don’t run around, and don’t say anything to anyone."

Emmy didn’t respond. All she could think about was whether James was okay.

She hurried back to her mom’s hospital room, grabbed her phone, and started frantically refreshing every news feed she could find, searching for any update about last night’s shootout at the military base.

But it was like someone had put a lid on the whole thing. Every news outlet was completely silent—nothing, not even a whisper of what she needed to know.

She kept digging and finally managed to find a couple of vague, half-baked reports buried in the corners of the internet, but none of them told her what she wanted.

Suddenly, a new message popped up at the top of her screen.

It was Pattie. Again.

Ever since Emmy had smacked her in the café, Pattie had been sending her nonstop nasty and threatening messages.

Emmy had thought about blocking her, but she figured with the lawsuit against her dad and all those crazy relatives, these messages might actually come in handy as evidence.

She meant to swipe Pattie’s message away, but her finger slipped and opened it.

Pattie: [Emmy, aren’t you worried about that husband of yours who looks so much like Mr. Nelson? I heard he got shot and killed last night out at Pine Peak! They say it was brutal—his head was blown wide open! Congrats, girl. You’re a widow before thirty. How does it feel?]
