Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 503

Even the staff member who came in to deliver the snacks couldn't stop herself from sneaking a few extra glances at him. The moment she stepped out, she started whispering to her coworker in the hallway.

“Oh my god, did you see that guy inside? He’s so hot, like, off-the-charts hot—walking hormones, I swear.”

“Sure, he’s gorgeous, but did you see how whipped he is? The way he dotes on his wife, it’s almost over the top.”

“Honestly, his wife hit the jackpot. She’s beautiful, and now she’s got this insanely attractive, attentive husband catering to her every need.”

“I bet he’s just a kept man, right? No way a guy that perfect would be so... eager to please unless he was living off her.”

Their gossip faded into a stream of jealous, breathless murmurs.

Emmy couldn’t hear exactly what they said, but she didn’t miss those curious, envious looks. That stubborn knot of irritation in her chest eased up just a little.

James was a department head, after all. She couldn’t let people think he was just some pushover living off his wife.

She finally spoke up. “Just put everything down and have some water. Take a little break.”

James’s eyes instantly lit up, like she’d just handed him a get-out-of-jail-free card. He sat right beside Emmy, took her hand in both of his, and looked at her with a soft, coaxing smile.

“Babe, you’re not mad at me anymore, right?”

Emmy let out a noncommittal hum, about to pull her hand back, when the door to the exam room suddenly opened.

A figure in a designer suit stepped out, followed by a familiar, elegant voice.

“I’ll come back in a few days, then.”

Emmy turned and froze in place.

It was Isabel.

Isabel spotted her at the same time. She started to smile out of habit, but the second her eyes fell on the man next to Emmy, her whole expression stalled, caught somewhere between a grin and utter shock.

The man she’d spent years dreaming about—so distant, so cold—was sitting right there, practically glued to Emmy, holding her hand like it was the only thing keeping him grounded. His tall frame leaned in close, and his deep eyes were filled with something Isabel had never seen before: a raw, almost needy hopefulness.

But how could two people look so much alike?

Then Isabel remembered that pinned contact in Jamie’s phone, and the way he always talked about James, his voice full of pride and admiration.

There had to be more to this story.

Meanwhile, James only had eyes for Emmy. When she stood up, he was right there with her, grabbing her hand again and giving it a little shake, not caring who was watching.

“Babe, are you really not mad at me anymore?” he asked, voice sweet and a little bit whiny.

Emmy practically wilted with embarrassment. She squeezed his hand, trying to get him to behave, and whispered, “I’m not mad, I promise. Just… act normal for a second, okay?”

James beamed, satisfied, and nodded.

Finally, Emmy let out a breath of relief and led him over to Isabel. “Isabel, this is my husband, James. James, meet Isabel, a friend of mine.”

Isabel stared at his familiar face, emotions swirling in her eyes. She finally managed to reach out her hand. “Nice to meet you.”
