The next morning, Emmy called Danny into her office and handed him a sleek black card.
“There’s a hundred million on this,” she said simply.
Danny’s hand shook so badly he almost dropped it. “Ms. Lincoln, this is…”
“Give it to Dean,” Emmy said, her voice cool and clear.
She didn’t want to owe Dean anything—not a single cent. She wanted clean lines between them, no lingering connections.
From Will, she’d learned what Dean had done for her—how he spent six hundred million at the border to save her. James managed to get five hundred million back for him. The last hundred million, Emmy would repay herself. That way, they’d be square. No more debts. No more ties.
It wasn’t long before Danny called her again, sounding uneasy. “Ms. Lincoln, Mr. Sparrow won’t take the money.”
“Then figure out a way to make him,” Emmy replied, her tone leaving no room for argument.

That afternoon, Evelina’s press conference was livestreamed everywhere.
Emmy watched the whole thing, eyes glued to the screen.
Evelina looked like a completely different person—just a few days had turned her into a ghost of herself. Her face was gaunt, eyes sunken, all her usual arrogance replaced by pure fear.
She faced the cameras, voice shaking as she admitted everything, one careful word at a time.
“…The core code from last year’s award-winning self-driving system—I stole it from Emmy’s computer.”
“And the Skyline System… the SkyNet security suite, the Oracle data analysis model…”
“And the base framework for the Mirage AI engine…”
With every confession, the live chat went wild.
Holy crap! Even the self-driving system was stolen? Is there anything she actually made herself?
This kind of thief should be blacklisted forever! Get out of the research world!
Shameless! Emmy got harassed online because of her. Why hasn’t she just disappeared already?
Someone should look into her mom too! Like mother, like daughter—both are trash!
Someone in the crowd even threw an egg.
It hit Evelina right on the forehead, yolk sliding down her cheek as she stood there, completely humiliated.
She snapped, screaming and sobbing.
After the conference ended, two officers came up and quietly led her away.
