Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 526

Emmy shook her head.

“No, I’ve never met him.”

After the AI International Competition, Nico had insisted she really ought to thank Mr. Nelson in person. But he’d also told her Mr. Nelson was insanely busy—unless it was some huge meeting or a fancy event where he had to show up, he was basically never around the office.

Nico had promised, “I’ll let you know when Mr. Nelson is back at Nelson Corporation.” But after that, Emmy never heard another word.

She shoved those thoughts aside and added, “Mr. Nelson seems like he’s always got a million things going on.”

“He definitely does,” Isabel replied, watching Emmy closely, like she was hoping to spot something in her expression. “But I’ve gotta admit, I have no idea what he’s actually so busy with. Do you?”

Emmy gave a little laugh.

“How would I know? I barely know him at all. Ever since Letter from the Other Side launched, I haven’t even set foot in Nelson Corporation.”

Isabel just smiled and let it drop. She set herself up for another swing, gave it her all, and sent the ball flying. It veered off course and stopped at the edge of the green.

She frowned in annoyance.

A staff member hurried over, set up a new ball, then quickly stepped back.

But Isabel waved her hand, suddenly uninterested. “You guys can go.”

The staff didn’t say a word. They left a basket of balls, hopped into the golf cart, and drove away, leaving the whole stretch of green to the two of them—and a bodyguard watching from a distance.

Emmy stayed quiet, stepped up to the tee, and took her shot. The ball soared through the air and landed right in the hole.

Isabel watched, impressed. “Wow, you’re really good at this.”

Emmy picked up her club and smiled. “Honestly, it’s probably the only thing I’m actually good at.”

Isabel didn’t push for more. She just stood there, quietly watching as Emmy played.

It wasn’t until Emmy sank another perfect shot that Isabel suddenly broke the silence.

“I used to date Jamie.”

Emmy froze, completely caught off guard. She turned to stare at Isabel in shock.

A complicated, faraway look crossed Isabel’s face.

“He acted like he was afraid of nothing, did whatever he wanted. But he only ever made one promise in his life—”

“‘When you turn eighteen,’ he told me, ‘I’ll come to your door and propose. I’ll marry you and give you everything you want.’”

Isabel’s eyes shimmered with tears and her voice caught in her throat.

“But I didn’t get the proposal. I just… he was gone.”

“Four whole years. Not a single word.”

“And then, when he finally showed up again… he was different. Like he was a completely different person. Even the way he looked at me—it was like I was just a stranger.”

Isabel’s eyes were red as she looked at Emmy.

“Emmy, tell me… how does someone you know so well suddenly turn into a stranger?”

Emmy saw the hurt in her eyes and for a moment, she had no idea what to say.

After a pause, she said quietly, “Maybe… something happened to him?”
