Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 552

Mandy let out a sharp laugh, folding her arms and looking Emmy up and down with obvious disdain.

“And on top of everything, he’s just a firefighter.”

“Our Sullivan family is loaded. We even have ties with the Nelsons—the absolute elite.”

“You really think just anyone with the last name Walker can suddenly become part of our family?”

Mrs. Sullivan shot Mandy a warning look and gently tugged at her sleeve.

“Mandy, maybe Emmy just remembered wrong. Let’s not make a scene.”

But Mandy wasn’t backing down. She kept her glare locked on Emmy.

“Mom, Dad, are you seriously not seeing what’s happening?”

“Abriella’s only acting like this because Emmy’s been a bad influence on her. That’s the only reason she’s so set on dating that firefighter, Will!”

“Ms. Lincoln gets to marry whoever she wants because she owns half of Starlight Corporation. She’s basically running her whole family now, so of course she can do what she pleases. But Abriella? She doesn’t have the brains, she doesn’t have the money, and now she wants to copy Ms. Lincoln—chasing after some so-called ‘true love’ without even asking you first!”

“She’s making it clear she doesn’t care about you, or about this family at all!”

Mandy’s dislike for Emmy ran deep.

Growing up among a bunch of rich girls, Emmy had always been different.

She was Mr. Sparrow’s favorite, doted on by every adult, always dressed in the nicest clothes, always getting the best of everything.

But what really got under Mandy’s skin was Abriella—this country girl nobody else wanted around, who could never quite get rid of that small-town smell. Yet Emmy insisted on being her friend.

She even kept coming over to the Sullivans’ just to stick up for Abriella, always standing up to Mandy.

Honestly, Mandy thought Emmy deserved to be left out by everyone else.

Emmy pushed aside her doubts for now. She listened to Mandy’s rant and just smiled.

“I have to say, Ms. Sullivan, your words really confuse me.”

“You say Abriella has no ability?”

“Seriously, what kind of proper rich girl behaves like that?”

“And she’s got something wrong with her head. The second she gets any money, she sends it back to her adoptive parents!”

“If Mom and Dad ever handed her any of the family business, she’d probably move those country folks right into our house! What would that do to the Sullivan family’s name?”

Mrs. Sullivan sighed, looking even more troubled.

“She’s right, Emmy. Abriella’s just too stubborn. After all these years, she still can’t let go of those adoptive parents.”

“She studied law, didn’t she? She should know they bought her from traffickers all those years ago. That basically makes them criminals! How can she still be grateful to them?”

“As long as she keeps holding on to them, your uncle and I can’t trust her with the family business.”

She sounded full of sorrow, but every word pushed the blame onto Abriella.

Emmy’s heart sank. She frowned and said, “Auntie, Uncle, I hope you won’t take this the wrong way.”

“But if Abriella had ever really felt at home here, would she still miss her adoptive parents so much?”
