Mr. Sullivan stormed forward, his face a dark shade of rage, eyes cold and sharp.
“I’m the head of the Sullivan family. You really think a handful of firefighters can just walk in and take my daughter away?”
Will’s eyes burned red, panic written all over his face, veins standing out at his temples.
“She’s not going to make it! She needs help right now!”
Mr. Sullivan hesitated, then sneered.
“Don’t try to scare me with your lies. She’s faking it!”
“No one’s leaving this house tonight. The police are already on their way!”
Tension hung in the air as Emmy rushed to the stretcher.
One look at Abriella’s ghost-pale face made Emmy’s heart sink.
She reached over to check her breathing—so faint it was almost gone.
“Will!” Emmy’s voice cracked. “Hurry! I think she’s stopped breathing!”
Will didn’t waste another second.
“Sorry about this,” he muttered, and before anyone could react, he shot forward.
There were a few dull thuds as Will barreled through the towering bodyguards. They crumpled like paper, groaning on the floor, completely outmatched.
In no time, Will had cleared a path and shouted over his shoulder,
“Move!”
Two team members grabbed the stretcher and dashed out the door.
“Stop them! Don’t let them leave!” Mrs. Sullivan screamed.
But the rest of the bodyguards just stared at their fallen teammates, not daring to step forward.
Mr. Sullivan was so furious he nearly collapsed, only staying upright with the help of a servant.
Emmy started to follow the others, but Mandy jumped in front of her, blocking the way.
“Don’t even think about running! You barged in here with those firefighters and took Abriella away. That’s breaking and entering—kidnapping! The police will be here any minute!”
She lunged for Emmy’s arm.
Emmy calmly explained her side of things, then added,
“This was all my doing. I was worried about my friend and asked them to help. The firefighters from South Bay had nothing to do with it. If there’s any blame, it’s on me.”
The officers seemed to get the picture.
“Alright, we’ll need you to come with us.”
Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan looked like they suddenly realized this was getting out of hand.
Mr. Sullivan rushed to say,
“Officers, this is just a misunderstanding. A family matter, really. My daughter made a mistake—we’re sorry to trouble you.”
But Emmy looked straight at the cops, her voice steady and clear.
“No, officer. This isn’t a misunderstanding.”
“You called the police, so as someone involved, I’ll cooperate with whatever you need.”
With that, she stood up and walked outside to the police car, climbing in without a word.
