“Enough!” Mr. Sullivan slammed his palm on the table and jumped to his feet, his finger shaking with anger as he pointed at Emmy. “Emmy, what do you think you’re doing?”
“Don’t think that just because your aunt and I have always liked you, you can just show up here with people and do whatever you want in my house.”
Mrs. Sullivan’s face was full of disappointment. “Emmy! When did you become so out of line?”
Mandy jumped right in to stir things up. “See? My little sister refuses to admit she’s wrong. She must’ve picked up all these bad habits from Emmy!”
“Shut up,” Emmy shot back, her voice cold as ice. Just one look from her and Mandy instantly clammed up.
Emmy turned to face Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan, both of them red with anger and shame.
“I always thought a family with twins would understand the value of blood ties more than anyone. But I never imagined you’d treat your own daughter like a criminal—quick to accuse, quick to punish, never hesitating to hit or yell at her.”
“Just because Abriella doesn’t suck up to you or latch onto you for an easy life, that means she deserves to be beaten?”
“You talk about family reputation and needing a pure-blooded marriage, but you treat an outsider like gold and your own child like she’s just part of some deal.”
“You’re not raising a daughter. You’re teaching her, in the cruelest way, that she doesn’t even belong in this family.”
“So tell me, why should she ever want to come back here?”
Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan were left speechless, faces burning with embarrassment. Their lips trembled, but not a single word came out.
Upstairs, Will had already kicked open Abriella’s bedroom door.
The air was thick with the metallic smell of blood.
Abriella was sprawled across the bed, completely lifeless. The back of her dress was torn to shreds, her skin raw and bloody, wounds everywhere—there was barely a patch of unbroken skin.
Two maids knelt beside her, hands shaking as they tried to wipe away the blood. The basin next to them was already stained a deep red.
Will froze the second he saw her. Disbelief and a tidal wave of rage and heartbreak crashed over him, threatening to swallow him whole.
“Abriella…”
His voice was raw as he rushed to her side. He reached out, wanting to touch her, but his hands—hands that could carry a grown man out of a burning building—were shaking so badly he could barely control them.
“I didn’t do anything wrong… I didn’t…”
Her hand slipped from his, limp and unresponsive.
Will’s heart dropped. He bent down fast, checking for any sign of breath—her breathing was so weak, he could barely feel it.
Panic shot through him. “Hurry! We need to get her to the hospital!” he yelled at his team.
He looked around for something, anything, to cover her battered back, but this so-called ‘princess’ bedroom didn’t even have a spare blanket.
Anger and heartbreak tangled up inside him. He yanked down the curtains and gently draped them over her.
“We’re going. Now.”
They lifted the stretcher and raced toward the stairs.
But as soon as they reached the landing, a wall of security guards blocked their way, closing in tight around them.
