James’s hand froze for a second.
“Doesn’t matter if they’re twins or boy-girl twins. I’ll love them both.”
Emmy smiled, just about to say something, when he added, “But if they’re boy-girl twins, that would be even better.”
Of course. So if they weren’t, would he never treat them the same?
Just like that, he killed the mood again.
Emmy let out a sigh and swallowed back what she’d wanted to say.
“How much longer?”
“Ten more minutes. If you’re tired, go ahead and sleep. I’ll clean you up when I’m done.”
Emmy thought, *How am I supposed to fall asleep like this?*
When he finally finished, he used a warm towel to gently wipe her clean. Emmy pulled the blanket over herself and drifted off into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Emmy woke up and found the other side of the bed empty.
James had already left for work.
After spending the whole day yesterday curled up together, it felt weird to wake up alone.
She grabbed her phone and opened a message from Danny.
[Ms. Eincoln, the board meeting for the Starlight Agriculture Project is at ten this morning. They’ll be making a final decision. Will you be there?]
Emmy frowned.
A final decision at a board meeting?
That meant the project was facing a lot of pushback.
She had a feeling those stubborn old board members were just waiting for a chance to shut it down.
Ever since the AI International Competition, she hadn’t been back to the company. She didn’t miss the fake smiles and empty compliments.
Normally, Danny just brought her the paperwork to sign.
But this time, for this project, she had to show up in person.
[I’ll be there,] she replied.
It was time to remind everyone who really called the shots at Starlight Corporation.
