Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 606

Teresa sat with both hands wrapped around her mug, sipping her tea. She glanced up and said, “That’s different. The rooms next door are for people staying at the temple.”

“Some of the regulars, the ones who come to pray or keep a vow, they’ll stay here for a while. The temple puts them up in those rooms.”

Emmy suddenly remembered the charm her grandma had given her. She got it here, too. Wait… did Grandma actually live here these days?

Before she could ask more, a few young novices came in, carrying trays of food. They set out all the dishes on the table. Everything was vegetarian but looked so delicate and inviting, light and fresh.

Everyone sat down for lunch. When they finished, Emmy stood up almost right away.

“I want to check out the courtyard next door.”

James cut her off, “The snow’s really coming down. It’s getting late. If we wait, the drive back won’t be safe.”

Teresa looked out the window at the swirling snow. “He’s right, Emmy. It’s slippery out. We should go soon.”

Emmy walked over to her mom, took her arm, and gave her best pleading look. “Mom, let’s just take a quick look. Who knows, maybe we’ll see someone we know.”

James’s brows drew together, his face creasing with worry. He strode over, grabbed her hat and scarf, and bundled her up, not even waiting for her to protest.

“There are people staying there, Emmy. We don’t know them. It’s not polite to just show up.”

Emmy frowned, thinking he was acting weird. “But what if I do know them?” She looked up at him, determined. “I really think I saw someone I recognized. Don’t block the door.”

She ducked under his arm, grabbed Teresa’s hand, and headed for the door.

“Come on, Mom!”

James’s frown deepened, but he followed, his face tense and unreadable.

As soon as they stepped through the arched gate into the next courtyard, a familiar, cheerful laugh rang out.

That was Grandma’s voice.

Emmy’s eyes lit up with excitement.

At almost the same moment, one of the doors creaked open. The caregiver came out, holding a bowl and fork. She looked up, saw Emmy, and her face went pale with shock. Her eyes darted past Emmy, caught sight of James, and she froze for a second.

James’s stare was icy. He gave her the tiniest shake of his head.

The caregiver quickly closed the door behind her, forcing a stiff smile. “Ms. Eincoln, are you here for the festival today too?”

Emmy smiled back. “Yeah, I came with my mom. How’s Grandma doing?”

The caregiver rushed to answer, “She’s been a little confused lately. She just finished eating and was about to nap.”
