Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 646

“Ivy…”

Emmy brushed off Marian’s hand and stumbled toward the stretcher, her shoes slipping in the blood.

“How’s Ivy? Please, doctor! Doctor!” Her voice was desperate, barely holding together.

Teresa rushed over, grabbing Emmy’s arm. She was shaking, still pale with fear. “Emmy, are you hurt? Did you get hurt anywhere?”

Emmy shook her head, tears smearing her cheeks. She could barely breathe, but at least her thick clothes had protected her. At least she’d landed in the bushes.

“I’m okay,” she choked out, clutching her mother’s hand with trembling fingers. Anger and grief twisted her voice. “Mom, it was Evelina. She meant to hit me. Ivy got hurt because of me.”

“I know. I know, honey. Calm down. We’ll go with them. Ivy’s going to be alright.” Teresa’s eyes were red, too. She squeezed Emmy’s hand tight and hurried after the stretcher.

The red light above the emergency room flicked on.

Emmy leaned against the wall, her legs about to give out. Only then did she realize she was still clutching something in her hand—her phone.

She looked at the screen, her hands shaking. The call was still connected. Six minutes, thirteen seconds.

She pressed it to her ear. Her voice was raw and thick with sorrow. “Ivy was hit. She got hurt saving me… she saved me and got hit instead…”

James answered on the other end, his voice low and heavy. “I’m coming. Right now.”

Moments after the call ended, the elevator doors slid open. James stepped out, cold wind clinging to his coat. He saw Emmy and his face went dark with worry. She broke down again, tears spilling over.

He crossed the lobby in a flash and wrapped her in his arms, holding her tight. His heart was racing, relief and fear mixing together.

He lowered his head, his voice rough. “I’m sorry. We messed up. We should have caught Evelina sooner.”

Emmy shook her head hard, still pressed against him. The worst of the panic faded, and her mind cleared. She pulled back, scrubbing at her face with the back of her hand. Her nose was stuffy, but her eyes were sharp again.

“How did Evelina know where we’d be?” she said, voice steady but strained. “We only took back roads from Moonlight Bay to the nursing home. We weren’t out in public.”

James frowned, thinking hard. “Our people are checking it out. Something’s off.”

“But did you ever stop to think? Evelina survived Shadow Core. She was never going to fall for something that simple.”

“Not only did she get away, she reached Claudia, too.”

James’s eyes cut right through Dean. “You almost got Emmy killed.”

“Dean, I’m telling you now. Don’t pull this kind of stunt again.”

Dean stared at the video on the tablet, his face drained of color. It was footage from the hospital parking lot. The black car sped toward Emmy, out of control.

So close…

If Ivy hadn’t seen it—if she hadn’t thrown herself at Emmy and shoved her out of the way—

Dean couldn’t even imagine what might have happened. And even so, Ivy…
