Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 680

The hospital room was crowded with bodyguards dressed in black suits, each one standing stiff and serious. Every single one of them held an open velvet box in their hands.

Inside those boxes was jewelry so stunning it almost hurt to look at. There was a ruby necklace, the stones blazing like tiny flames. Flawless South Sea black pearl earrings shimmered with a mysterious glow. A bracelet and pendant set, made from imperial green jade, looked so fresh and vivid you’d swear they could drip water. There was even a tiara, sparkling with what felt like a thousand pink diamonds.

James walked over and kept his voice low. “My mother sent these as an apology.”

Emmy frowned, just a little. The Nelson family sure had a way of saying sorry. Big, flashy, and straight to the point. But since it was his mother who’d slapped her first, Emmy didn’t see any reason to play nice about accepting this kind of payback.

“Put them in my closet,” she said, not even pretending to be polite.

As soon as he saw her accept, something bright flickered in James’s tired eyes. He rushed over to grab a huge bouquet of red roses from the side, their petals still fresh and dewy. Emmy didn’t even look at them.

She walked straight to the coat rack, picked up her jacket and phone, and started dialing Danny as she headed out of the room.

“Did Mr. Nelson say anything after I left?” she asked.

Danny answered right away. “Mr. Nelson’s secretary called. He said the partnership talks will keep going, no matter what happens personally. And whenever you’re ready, Ms. Eincoln, you can set up the next meeting.”

“Okay.” Emmy hung up, but stopped for a moment in the hallway. Up ahead, a few bodyguards were standing guard outside a VIP suite.

James caught up to her and spoke quickly. “Claudia’s staying in there.”

Emmy didn’t pause again. She just kept walking toward the elevator. James hurried in after her, with the bodyguards following close behind.

When the elevator doors closed, the mirrored walls reflected Emmy’s face. The angry red mark on her left cheek was still there, clear as day. There was no way she could go back to Moonlight Bay like this. If her mom saw, it would turn into a never-ending string of questions.

The elevator chimed as they reached the ground floor. As soon as the doors slid open, Emmy turned to Micah. “Get the car.”

James stepped in, putting a hand gently on her shoulder. “Wait here. I’ll bring the car around. It’s cold out. Just come out when I pull up.”

He didn’t wait for her answer, just headed straight out into the night.

Emmy watched him disappear, saying nothing.

“I told you. I hate being lied to more than anything.”

“Didn’t I ask you about this? More than once? And what did you say to me?”

“If I wasn’t meeting your father for this deal, how long were you planning to keep it from me? Until after the baby was born? Or were you going to lie to me forever?”

James jumped in quickly. “I really was going to tell you. I wanted to introduce you to Mom in the next few days, and I was going to tell you everything then.”

His words just made Emmy angrier. She almost wanted to laugh.

“Do you think I’m stupid? That I’m that easy to fool?”

“You two look exactly alike, and I still thought you were different people!”

“So tell me, James. When you watched me as Mr. Nelson, what were you thinking? Did you think it was funny?”
