Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 698

Emmy’s sobs finally slowed, but then she pushed Abriella away and leaned over the side of the couch, gagging and gasping for air.

“Emmy!”

Abriella rushed over, frantic, rubbing Emmy’s back in gentle circles.

“Emmy, please, don’t scare me like that. You have to think about the baby, okay?”

“Take a deep breath. Slow, just like that. No more crying, it’s okay, I’m here…”

Emmy didn’t throw up, her body just shook with dry heaves that left her empty and aching. After a while, the worst of it passed. She slumped against the sofa, totally drained, her face ghostly pale. Her eyes were so swollen and red, they looked like two overripe peaches.

Abriella hurried to pour a glass of warm water and carefully handed it over. “Are you feeling any better?”

Emmy took tiny sips, her hands trembling. Her breathing steadied, but the ache inside her only grew sharper. She stared down at her knees, lost in her own pain.

Abriella hesitated, then asked softly, “Emmy… do you want to go see James?”

The words hit Emmy like a jolt of electricity. She snapped her head up.

See him.

She needed to see him.

Right now. No waiting.

Her voice was rough from crying. “Where is he?”

“I went to look for him this morning,” Abriella said quickly. “He was headed to the station.”

Without another word, Emmy grabbed her jacket, shoved her arms through the sleeves, and snatched up her phone and room card. She was out the door in seconds.

All she could think about was seeing him, holding him, telling him that none of this was his fault. He wasn’t cursed. His brother’s death wasn’t on him. He wasn’t the reason for anyone’s pain. He was her James. The father of her child.

“Emmy, slow down!”

Abriella dashed after her, her heart finally letting out a sigh of relief.

This was good. Emmy knew everything now. She’d forgive James. They’d be okay, just like before.

But as soon as they stepped out of the elevator and into the hotel lobby, Emmy’s phone rang.

She picked up. Her mother’s voice came through, tight with barely contained anger.

“Emmy, are you back yet?”

The moment Emmy stepped into the living room, she froze.

The coffee table was covered with glittering jewelry, all laid out in deep blue velvet boxes. They looked expensive and cold, and Emmy thought immediately of Mrs. Nelson.

Her mom sat in the main chair, her face dark, her eyes red and puffy. She’d obviously been crying.

When Teresa saw Emmy walk in, she was startled at first, then her eyes landed on Emmy’s swollen face.

“Emmy, what happened to your eyes?”

Emmy rubbed her eyes, mumbling, “It’s nothing. Just too much work, staring at the computer all day.”

Teresa could tell it was a lie, but she didn’t push. She just took a deep breath, her voice icy and firm.

“Emmy, you need to divorce James.”

“What?” Emmy was stunned, unable to process the words.

Her mom had always liked James, always said good things about him. Why would she suddenly say this? Even if she’d just learned the truth about him, it shouldn’t have come to this.

Abriella looked just as shocked. She stepped forward, worried. “Auntie, there must be some mistake. Emmy and James… they love each other.”
