“Before Young Master left, he cut the power to your greenhouse.”
Shelly’s expression changed in an instant. She didn’t even hesitate, sprinting straight for the backyard.
That glass greenhouse was her pride and joy, filled with rare and exotic flowers she’d hunted down from every corner of the world, each one more delicate and expensive than the last.
Now the whole place was swallowed by darkness. The temperature control had shut off, letting a rush of cold air sweep inside.
Those fragile blooms she’d spent so much time and money on started wilting almost right away.
Shelly’s vision swam, and she nearly passed out.
“Ma’am!” One of the servants hurried over and caught her just in time.
Shelly never thought her own son would go this far, all for that woman. If that woman could twist him around her finger before she even married in, what would happen to Shelly’s place in this house once she actually moved in?
And then there was Teresa. Shelly had paid her to keep her mouth shut, but she still went and told James everything.
Unbelievable. People from those kinds of backgrounds just had no sense of rules. No class at all.
…
Meanwhile, James drove back to the hospital.
He walked in carrying an elegant insulated food container.
Abriella was waiting in the hallway just outside the room. As soon as she spotted him, she hurried over.
“James, Emmy’s still not awake,” she said softly.
She glanced at the container in his hand, hesitating. “Do you want… me to take that in for you?”
Abriella was terrified that if Teresa saw James again, things would blow up.
James paused. Inside the container was pumpkin soup, made by a top-tier chef with the best organic pumpkin and Hokkaido milk. It was Emmy’s favorite.
He didn’t say anything for a long moment. Finally, he handed the container to Abriella.
He didn’t go in. Instead, he turned and walked to the doctor’s office.
Lorelei was just about to leave when the door swung open. James stepped inside, looking completely exhausted. His jaw was shadowed with dark stubble, his eyes were bloodshot, and his coat was a mess.
Lorelei’s face grew serious. “Can someone like that really handle your family?”
The Nelsons weren’t just rich. They were powerful, old money, and strict about everything.
Just look at James’s mother, or the head of the family. Neither one was easy to deal with.
The head of the family had made it clear: his priority was the safe birth of the Nelson twins.
As for Emmy… it wasn’t like they’d actually accepted her.
Otherwise, why make even an outsider like Lorelei keep it a secret?
They clearly had no plan to introduce Emmy to the world as Mrs. Nelson.
James pressed his lips into a thin, hard line. His voice was low and cold.
“They’re not getting anywhere near her.”
“You just focus on taking care of my wife and my kids.”
