Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 720

“Is my wife alright?”

As soon as the call connected, James’s voice came through, deep and smooth, with that magnetic edge that always managed to tug at Emmy’s heart. Her fingers curled up without her even realizing it.

Abriella threw a quick glance at Emmy. She looked completely unreadable, so Abriella scrambled to answer. “She’s fine. Everything’s great. Emmy’s doing well, and so are the twins.”

“As long as she’s okay, that’s all I care about.” James’s voice sounded like he was finally able to breathe again.

But just as quickly, he switched gears, his tone sharp. “You need to be more careful next time. Watch and learn from my wife. Use your head. Don’t just act on impulse.”

Abriella shrank under his scolding, nodding even though he couldn’t see her. “Yes, yes, I get it, James!”

James went quiet for a second, almost like he was picking up on something. Then he asked, “Is my wife there with you?”

Abriella’s heart nearly jumped out of her chest. She shot Emmy a pleading look.

Emmy gave her a small shake of the head.

Abriella rushed to say, “No, she’s not here. I’m out on the balcony making this call.”

“Is that so.” James’s voice was impossible to read. He paused, just for a moment, and there was this soft hopefulness there. “Did she… say anything about me?”

Abriella wanted so badly to say yes, but with Emmy’s clear eyes on her, she couldn’t bring herself to lie.

“No,” she said, and the air seemed to turn icy.

There was a long silence on James’s end, so long Abriella thought he might have hung up.

“Take care of her.”

That was all he said before the line went dead.

Abriella stared at her phone for a second, then let out a heavy breath. It felt like she’d just survived a wrestling match.

Emmy, on the other hand, kept her eyes on the phone, her expression a little empty.

It had only been a few days since she’d last heard James’s voice. So why did hearing him now make her chest ache with longing, enough to almost bring her to tears?

She told herself it was just the pregnancy hormones messing with her.

She forced herself to swallow it down and looked up. “What’s he been up to lately?”

Isabel sat alone in the private room for a long time. Suddenly, something clicked. She grabbed her bag and rushed out.

She drove like a madwoman, running two red lights on her way to the Nelson Corporation building.

“I want to see Mr. Nelson!” she demanded as soon as she arrived, using her status as the Summer family’s heiress to barge into the executive office, only to be told Mr. Nelson wasn’t there.

She spun around and headed straight for the next office.

Tyler was working through a stack of files when the door banged open, making him frown.

The assistant hurried in after her. “Mr. Nelson, we tried to stop Ms. Summer, but she insisted on seeing you.”

Isabel ignored everyone, striding up to Tyler’s desk and planting her hands on it. She stared him down.

“Tyler, where is Mr. Nelson?”

Tyler frowned back. “You should have his contact information.”

But Isabel wasn’t backing down. Her voice was sharp. “I’m talking about Jamie. Where is he?”
