“Who’s Claudia’s doctor?”
“That’s Dr. Townsend.”
Emmy lifted an eyebrow. “After all those years she spent overseas, living the wild life, I bet her body’s got a few... reminders.”
“Even if Dean hadn’t kicked her and made her lose the baby, with her age and all the chaos she’s put herself through, do you really think she could have kept the pregnancy anyway?”
“I want every single one of her medical reports, especially the ones about this. The more details, the better.”
Suddenly, Lorelei understood.
If a man as powerful as Ben ever found out that his precious wife was basically rotten to the core... That would be enough to make him never want to touch Claudia again.
“But before we do that,” Emmy said, “there’s something else I want to know.”
“Why did Ben even marry Claudia in the first place?”
Abriella, who’d been keeping quiet the whole time, raised her hand like she was back in grade school.
“I’ll, um, I’ll look into it!”
She looked at Emmy, so eager it was almost pitiful, like she was desperate to make up for something.
“I’ll find out everything, I promise!”
Emmy gave her a glance and nodded.
Then she looked at both of them, her voice calm but serious. “I want everything we talked about today to stay between the three of us. Not a word to anyone else.”
She turned to Lorelei, her tone gentle but with a quiet warning underneath.
“Dr. Hall, I’m trusting you this once.”
“If anything goes wrong...”
“I’ll replace my health manager, no hesitation.”
“Understood,” Lorelei said, sounding more serious than ever.
Once Lorelei left, Abriella started gathering her things.
“Oh, before you go,” Emmy called out, “tell your James about Claudia tricking you for information. He should know, just in case.”
Abriella’s face dropped. She started waving her hands like she was shooing away a bee.
James set aside the mobile and checked his phone.
One glance and the gentle energy around him vanished, his brows pulling together in a hard line.
Then another message popped up from Abriella.
[But it’s okay, Emmy handled it. She threatened that crazy woman with something else. She probably won’t say anything now! James, please don’t be mad! QAQ]
James stared at the screen for a second, then dialed a number.
Back in the hospital room, Abriella saw her phone light up with “James the Demon King” calling. Her hand shook so much it almost flew out of her grip.
She shot a desperate look at Emmy.
Emmy just looked at her coolly. “Don’t look at me. Answer it.”
Abriella managed a smile that looked more like she was in pain.
“Don’t worry, Emmy. I’m always on your side!”
She sucked in a breath, hit the answer button like she was bracing for a storm, and switched on the speaker.
