Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 718

Emmy’s voice was calm. “She won’t.”

She paused for a second, then added, “At least, she won’t make a scene for now.”

“My threat was enough to keep her from running around telling everyone, or taking it straight to the cabinet. That would only end up hurting her husband.”

“But,” Emmy’s eyes grew cold, “I can’t promise she won’t share this secret with her people on the ship.”

The moment Abriella heard that, her eyes filled with guilt. She looked like she might cry.

“I’m so sorry, Emmy. This is all my fault… I just lost my cool and tried to argue with her, and I fell right into her trap… I dragged you into this…”

“It’s not your fault,” Emmy cut her off. “This was a setup from the start. Even if you kept quiet, she would have found another way to get it out of me.”

“She’s probably been suspicious for a long time. Today was just about getting us to confirm it.”

Lorelei, who had been quiet this whole time, finally spoke. Her voice was low and serious. “Claudia’s way too smart.”

“How did she figure it out? Or maybe she’s been investigating James all along?”

Emmy turned to her. “It could be either. Only someone who’s been digging up every detail, connecting every little clue, could put it all together like she did.”

For a split second, Lorelei looked honestly shaken.

“She managed to rule out every other possibility and connect a firefighter to someone as high-profile as Mr. Nelson… that takes a different level of thinking.”

“No wonder even the military can’t do anything about her.”

After a moment, she asked, “Once Claudia’s out of the hospital, the military still needs her to fall before they can get help from the border. Attacking her reputation in public doesn’t work anymore. Do you… have any other ideas?”

Lorelei would never have asked Emmy for advice before.

But today, she’d watched Emmy, cornered and outnumbered, turn everything around with just a few sentences. It changed the way she saw her. Maybe Emmy really could help.

Emmy didn’t answer right away.

She just looked at Lorelei for a long moment before finally asking, “Can I trust you, Dr. Hall?”

Lorelei froze, then let out a soft breath, almost like she was giving in.

“I’m your health manager. Why wouldn’t you trust me?”

Abriella wanted to say something, but she just pressed her lips together, remembering how she’d just messed up, and kept quiet.

“If you want me to trust you, you have to show some honesty.”

Emmy asked, “Dr. Hall, who sent you to be my health manager?”

Worried Emmy would figure out even more, Lorelei jumped in.

“James told me himself. You don’t trust many people, but you should trust your husband.”

“And I’m a military doctor. I’d never do anything against my ethics or my duty.”

Emmy watched her quietly for a while, then finally gave a soft, “Okay.”

That single word felt like a seal of approval.

“Now, about Claudia.”

She shifted back to the problem at hand.

“Going after her in public still works. Ben’s already suspicious of her. All we need to do is…”

She paused, her eyes sharp and cold.

“…throw some more fuel on the fire.”

“Their divorce is just a matter of time.”

Lorelei leaned in, eager now. “What’s your plan?”
