Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 745

As the first light crept into the world, James jolted awake in his car. He could hardly believe he’d actually fallen asleep. Maybe it was the exhaustion from days of nonstop work, or maybe it was just being close to her. Either way, last night he’d slept better than he had in ages.

He rubbed his forehead, then sat up and glanced toward the gate without really thinking. That’s when he spotted another car. Parked on the side road by the lot was a black Maybach. He knew that license plate.

James’s brows drew tight, his whole expression going cold. He shoved open his door and strode over, his long legs eating up the distance.

Suddenly, brights flared on, blinding him. He instinctively raised a hand to block the glare.

The car door swung open and Dean stepped out, moving slow and easy in a suit that looked like it cost a fortune. He leaned against the car, lit a cigarette with practiced grace, and took a long drag before blowing a perfect smoke ring right at James.

“Never thought I’d see you camping out here all night,” Dean said, his voice dripping with mockery. “So, how’s it feel to be locked out? Not so great, huh?”

James stopped right in front of him, his height and presence impossible to ignore. His voice was pure ice.

“This isn’t where you belong, Mr. Sparrow.”

Dean let out a short laugh and flicked some ash. “What’s the deal, James? You save the world, boss everyone around, and now you think this public street belongs to you?”

James’s dark eyes narrowed, lips twisting into the faintest, coldest smile.

“Let’s just say it’s up in the air whether this street is mine right now.”

He took a step closer, his gaze sharp as a blade as it slid over Dean’s Maybach. His voice was low, all threat.

“But I do know that if you don’t get out of my sight, you might need a tow truck for that car of yours.”

Dean dropped what was left of his cigarette and crushed it under his shoe. He looked up at James, something almost sickly certain and weirdly sympathetic in his eyes.

“I don’t know what you did to piss Emmy off, and honestly, I don’t care.” He shrugged. “But I know her better than you ever could.”

“She’s impossible to sway, stubborn as hell. Once she’s mad, there’s no going back. She won’t forgive you. Ever.”

Dean watched with satisfaction as James’s face darkened. He couldn’t help but enjoy it.

“The longer you hang around here, the more she’ll hate you.”

There was a heavy thud. Pain exploded in his jaw and he was flung sideways, a tooth flying out with a spray of blood. The back of his head slammed against the cold metal of the car with a sickening clang.

Everything spun. His ears rang. For a moment, he was just lost in the chaos.

He never thought James would actually hit him, just like that.

Fury and humiliation rose inside him like wildfire.

“Bastard!”

Dean spat out blood, his eyes wild. Suddenly, he pulled a small silver pistol from inside his jacket, lightning-quick.

He leveled it at James without a second thought.

The gunshot tore through the quiet just before dawn.
