“Mrs. Nelson.” Joshua set a thick stack of documents on the desk and started his report with calm precision. “The nine projects you had me invest in are all making great progress. The market has responded really well.” He flipped the top page, confirming his numbers. “Three of them have already reached Series A funding. That’s brought Nelson Corporation’s profits up by nearly two percent.” He hesitated for just a second before continuing. “Now, all the shareholders are dying to meet the mysterious force behind these wins. I told them no, just like you asked.”
Emmy nodded. “Thank you, Joshua. I appreciate it.”
She handed him another folder, her movements smooth and unhurried. “This week, I want you to invest in these six projects.”
Her voice was gentle, but her words made even Joshua, who’d seen his fair share of corporate storms, feel a jolt of nerves. “Put all my shares in Nelson Corporation into these, exactly following the percentages I’ve marked.”
All her shares? That meant she was betting everything. No backup plan. No way out. This was a bold, all-or-nothing move.
Joshua’s eyes widened for a heartbeat, but he quickly schooled his features. Mr. Nelson’s only instruction when he’d been assigned here was clear. Listen to Mrs. Nelson, no matter what. Her word was law. Just follow her lead. No questions.
He took a deep breath, accepted the folder, and nodded. “Understood, Mrs. Nelson.”
Emmy laid out a few more details. Joshua made careful notes, then left the room quietly.
As soon as the door closed, Danny knocked and came in. Emmy rested her hand on her noticeably round belly, letting herself relax for the first time all day.
Almost there. Just two more months. If she could hold on for two more months, she’d have built something real for herself and her kids. Her ten percent stake in Nelson Corporation was just the first step. It would snowball, getting bigger and stronger until it was unbreakable. One day, it would be a fortress no one could ever take from her and her children.
Thinking about it, the tension in her body faded away. This afternoon felt like a rare chance to breathe.
She glanced at Danny. “Danny, can you help me get some things together? I want to visit my grandma this afternoon.”
“Of course, Ms. Lincoln,” Danny replied right away.
