Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 812

By the time James made it to Moonlight Bay, it was already well past midnight. He was his usual careful self, making sure he looked tidy before climbing over the courtyard wall and slipping in through the window.

Lorraine, asleep on her little cot, jolted awake. She almost screamed, but when she realized who it was, her heart nearly leapt out of her chest. Taking a shaky breath, she quietly tiptoed out and headed back to her own room.

The bedroom was calm and still, lit only by a dim nightlight. Emmy was fast asleep. Even in sleep, though, her eyebrows were scrunched together like she was stuck in a bad dream.

James took off his shoes and slid into bed, moving as quietly as he could. He pulled Emmy close, feeling her warm, soft body melt into his arms. Leaning down, he pressed a gentle kiss to her furrowed brow.

Maybe it was his familiar scent or just the comfort of having him near, but under his touch, her tense features slowly began to relax. Emmy nestled in closer, her breathing evening out as she drifted into a deeper, more peaceful sleep.

She woke again around four in the morning, her stomach growling. Shifting under the covers, she was about to call out for Lorraine when she realized she was wrapped up in someone’s arms. The scent, the warmth… everything about it was unmistakably James.

For a second, she honestly wondered if she was dreaming. Then she heard that low, raspy voice right by her ear.

“Why are you awake? Are you feeling okay?”

Tears instantly sprang to Emmy’s eyes. She hugged him tight, holding on like she’d never let go. Everything Steve had told her, all the things she’d worried about, hit her at once and stabbed right at her heart.

Her nose stung and her voice came out muffled against his chest. “James, I forgive you. You still have me. You always have me. So, stop carrying everything by yourself, okay? Let me in. Let me share it. I’ll always be here, and I’ll love you more than anyone else ever could.”

James went completely still. It was like something exploded in his chest, a rush of heat and pain so intense it stole his breath. The love he felt for her was so deep, it almost hurt.

He pulled her closer, holding her as gently as he could, terrified of hurting her or the baby. His whole body trembled with the effort to hold back. His throat was tight, the words stuck and aching, so all he could do was bury his face in her neck and let his silent tears soak through her pajamas.
