Teresa’s face went pale as shock crashed over her. She could barely keep up with Lorelei, so she just bolted out of the room as fast as she could.
Out in the hallway, Abriella and Krystina were still fussing over the babies with the others. The mood was light and happy.
“Something’s wrong!” Teresa burst through the doorway, clutching the frame, her breaths coming in sharp, panicked gasps.
“Emmy… Emmy’s gone!”
“What?!”
Everyone froze, the cheerful atmosphere vanishing in an instant.
Lorraine was the first to react. She spun around and raced back into the delivery room. She barely needed a second to take in the scene: a nurse slumped unconscious on the floor, and a tiny charm discarded by the bed.
That was the good luck charm Madam had clung to every night, even when she was asleep. Lorraine’s stomach dropped. Panic set in, icy and raw.
She ran back out, her voice high and frantic. “Micah! Call the head of the Nelson family! Madam is missing!”
The whole floor erupted. Abriella and Krystina grabbed their phones, frantically calling every connection they had. Teresa’s hands shook as she dialed Andrew’s number. The second he picked up, she broke down, her voice trembling through sobs.
“Mr. Aldridge… please… you have to help Emmy… someone took her…”
Meanwhile, Lorelei sprinted into the stairwell, phone in hand, trying to get through to hospital security.
“Lock down every exit. Right now!”
She didn’t even finish her sentence before two figures lunged out from the shadows at the bend in the stairs, one on each side, cutting her off.
Their eyes were cold and hard. They didn’t say a word before attacking. Lorelei had military training, but this was no basic drill. In seconds, she was losing the fight. A fist slammed into her stomach, sending her crashing into the wall. Pain exploded in her side and she doubled over, coughing up blood.
One of the attackers ripped her phone away and hurled it to the floor. The screen shattered instantly.
They waited just long enough to make sure she wasn’t getting up, then disappeared, moving fast.
