Valerie's POV
I was finally being discharged. Dr. Albright signed the last of the paperwork with a hand that still trembled slightly whenever I looked at him.
"Your physical recovery is complete, Lady Valerie," he said, not quite meeting my eyes. "But your magical energy is still dangerously low. I must advise you to avoid any strenuous activity."
"I'll keep that in mind," I said, my tone dry.
My parents had sent a set of simple, comfortable clothes. It felt good to be out of the hospital gown and in a soft sweater and jeans. I was ready to go.
My driver, Elias, was waiting for me just outside the suite. He gave me a respectful nod as I stepped into the hallway.
Just as we were about to leave, a man appeared at the end of the corridor. He was dressed in the black, unmarked combat gear of Kai's elite guard, and he moved with a silent, deadly efficiency.
He held a flat, silver, climate-controlled case in his hands. He stopped in front of me and bowed his head.
"Lady Valerie. A delivery for you, from Alpha Kai."
Elias tensed slightly, moving to stand between me and the guard. It was a subtle, protective gesture.
I gave Elias a small nod to let him know it was okay. I took the case. It was cool to the touch and surprisingly light.
"Thank you," I said to the guard. He just bowed again and retreated down the hall, disappearing as silently as he had arrived.
I looked down at the case in my hands. What the hell was this?
Back at the Silver Crown compound, I went straight to my new rooms. I placed the silver case on my bed.
