Dumped Omega? Now Their Alpha King Begs at My Feet novel Chapter 63

Valerie's POV

The romantic magic of the night was completely gone. The air on the balcony felt cold again, and it had nothing to do with the altitude.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself. He wanted the truth. Fine. He would get it.

I looked at him, my expression blank. I had learned a long time ago that showing emotion was a weakness. It was a weapon they could use against you.

"After they told me my parents were dead, Alpha Blackwood moved me into a small room in the basement," I began, my voice flat and even. "It was damp. There was no window."

Kai didn't move. He just stood there, his face like carved stone, his eyes locked on mine. He was listening.

"I was no longer considered part of the family," I continued. "I ate my meals in the kitchen, after everyone else was finished. If there were any leftovers."

I told him about the chores. I wasn't just expected to help. I was the unpaid servant. I did the laundry, scrubbed the floors, cleaned up after the pack dinners.

"Luna Iris once made me re-wash an entire load of whites because she found a single speck of mud on a towel," I said, my voice devoid of any anger or sadness. It was just a fact.

"If I complained, I didn't eat for a day. It was a simple system."

I told him about Brenda. About her special brand of cruelty.
