Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 619

But her finger was still injured, and when Tristan's palm came down, it landed right on her wound.

The pain shot straight up her arm, sharp and excruciating—like someone was snapping her finger in two.

For a moment, she didn’t even care about the sting on her cheek from his slap.

Sylvia turned her head, her hair falling messily over her face. Blood welled up from her finger, soaking through the napkin and dripping onto the floor.

Tristan looked like he wanted to jab his finger right through Sylvia’s skull, fury in his voice. “If it wasn’t your fault, then why were you at Rupert’s place? Do you have any idea that Reese is in critical condition because of you? You’re nothing but trouble!”

Sylvia froze. She had never imagined that Reese’s life could be in danger.

She forgot all about the burning pain in her cheek and glanced up at Tristan, only to meet Kay’s smug gaze over his shoulder.

That’s when Sylvia realized something was definitely off.

But Tristan didn’t give her a chance to speak. His hand came up again.

This time, Lester stepped in, putting himself right between them.

“Tristan, until we know what really happened, I’d appreciate it if you showed a little respect to my girlfriend.”

Tristan’s hand hung awkwardly in the air. His glare darted from Sylvia to Lester, irritation flickering beneath his stern expression.

Now that Sylvia had someone to back her up, she was even harder to get rid of.

He snorted and folded his arms. “Mr. Sanford, I didn’t want to air out dirty laundry, but I can’t stand by and watch you and Reese get pushed apart because of Sylvia. She was at Rupert’s house first thing this morning—what do you think she was doing there? What do you think happened? Of course Reese was furious.”

Sylvia was so mad, she didn’t even feel her wound anymore.

Tristan always assumed the worst about her, always painting her in the worst possible light.

As if the only thing a woman like her could use was her looks to please men.

She wanted to step forward to defend herself, but Lester blocked her.
