Chapter 132: The Hidden Past

The story concluded.
At that critical moment, a compassionate couple happened to stop their car to offer help. The husband quickly pulled out the first person from danger. When he returned to rescue little Jasper, the car suddenly exploded. The husband was trapped, unable to escape the raging flames that consumed him. Yet, before succumbing, he mustered all his strength to push the unconscious Jasper to safety.
By the time the ambulance arrived, it was already too late. The husband had died at the scene. The wife, overwhelmed by the devastating news, went into premature labor. She was rushed to the hospital, where, with her last breath, she delivered their child before passing away to reunite with her husband.
Before her death, the husband had made a solemn promise to personally care for the daughter they left behind.
Coincidentally, Lauren was also in the hospital giving birth at the same time. Unfortunately, her labor was difficult, and her baby was stillborn. Concerned that the child would grow up without parents, Grandpa took it upon himself to place the newborn in Lauren’s delivery room.
Thus, by a twist of fate, the girl came to be recognized as the eldest daughter of the Lowell family.
From that point on, Grandpa worked tirelessly to compensate for this loss. He elevated the Lowell family’s status, secretly shielding the young girl and lavishing his affection upon her. Ultimately, he intended to unite her with Jasper.
But everything that followed…
Grandpa’s voice faltered. “Did I make a mistake? Should I have never let the girl and Jasper be together? I only wanted to repay a debt of kindness! How did it end up turning into bitterness instead?” He wondered if raising the girl as his god-granddaughter from the start would have changed the outcome. Maybe then, things wouldn’t have turned out so tragically.
“Grandpa, the past is behind us. There’s still time to make things right.”
He whispered softly, “Is there really time left?”
This secret had been his burden all his life, carefully concealed from everyone except his loyal butler. Years ago, when the Lowell family discovered the girl wasn’t their biological child, he thought that since she held the status of the Jackson family’s young mistress, she wouldn’t need the Lowell family name and would be fine. So he didn’t stop the truth from coming out.
But that so-called ‘Summer’ couldn’t possibly be the Lowell family’s daughter either! Their biological child was stillborn! He could never accept Summer, yet Jasper was completely blind to it. And there was a secret he could never reveal.
“I should have hit him a few more times just now!”

The story concluded.
“…Grandpa, if you hit Jasper again, he’ll be disfigured.”
“He deserves it!”
The old butler wisely chose to remain silent.
“Go. Handle this matter properly for me. I want the girl to be recognized with the highest honor, no matter what anyone else thinks.”
The butler nodded in agreement, thinking to himself, The Jackson family is going to be shaken to its core by this.
Sure enough, when the news broke, it was like a bomb exploding, stunning everyone. Barry’s reaction was the most extreme.
“Ridiculous! What nonsense is this? How can he just pick up some random stray and claim her as family?”
Marilyn, however, remained much calmer. She sipped her tea slowly and said, “Grandpa made the decision without needing your approval.” Marilyn was quite accepting—one more daughter wouldn’t change much. After all, she would only be under Grandpa’s name, borrowing the family’s prestige.
