Even in Darkness She Chose to Rise (Tatiana and Jasper) novel Chapter 146

**TITLE: Even the Night Couldn’t Silence Her Light**

**Chapter 146: The Price of a Lie**

As Jasper strode into the lavish hall, a wave of satisfaction washed over him. Not only was he about to marry the woman of his dreams, but he was also elevating his family’s status in the process. Life was undeniably good!

The moment he entered, the Larson couple approached him with an eagerness that bordered on desperation. “Jasper, welcome! It’s such a pleasure to have you here. Please, come right in,” they urged, their voices dripping with forced enthusiasm.

Jasper accepted their handshake with a polite nod, carefully maintaining a professional distance. His demeanor was cool and composed, betraying no hint of familiarity or warmth.

Leon, ever the opportunist, attempted to break the ice with a cheeky grin. “We’re family now, right? So, make sure to look out for me in the future!” he said, his tone playful yet slightly disingenuous.

Jasper shot him a glance, his expression unreadable. He chose silence over engagement and continued on his way, leaving Leon to bask in his own bravado.

Unfazed by the lack of response, Leon watched Jasper walk away, a broad smile plastered on his face. His gaze then inadvertently met Tatiana’s, who stood just behind Jasper.

Leon quickly mouthed a silent “Thanks,” a gesture filled with gratitude that Tatiana caught, their eyes locking in a moment of mutual understanding.

Earlier that day, when Minnie had sought to ensnare her, it was Leon who had come to her aid. They had conspired together, turning the situation to their advantage. After all, why sully the reputation of a woman who could potentially be a problem later on? It made much more sense for him to marry the woman he desired, securing both his future and his desires in one fell swoop.

The banquet hall buzzed with the chatter and laughter of guests, the air thick with anticipation and celebration. The old patriarch, unfortunately unwell, was absent, but Barry and Marilyn were both present. Barry mingled with the crowd, while Marilyn found herself in the dressing room, trying to console a distraught Minnie, who was sobbing uncontrollably.

“Mom, I can’t marry him! Please, you have to help me!” Minnie cried, her voice cracking with despair. The pristine white wedding dress she wore, once a symbol of joy, now felt like a cruel joke.

Marilyn looked at her daughter’s swollen eyes, her heart aching. “Minnie, your makeup is running,” she said gently, the weight of her words hanging heavily in the air.

Those simple words struck Minnie’s heart like a dagger, filling her with dread.

“Mom…” she whimpered, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Today is supposed to be your big day. You need to stop crying; it brings bad luck. You made your choices, and now you must face the consequences,” Marilyn said, her tone firm yet laced with sorrow. She had raised Minnie with dreams of a bright future, hoping she would find a good match.

“The Larson family is using the incident with the drugs against you. If you refuse to marry him, they won’t let it go. And if word gets out, no one else will ever dare to marry you,” she continued, the reality of their situation sinking in.

Minnie felt the weight of her mother’s words. Regret coursed through her, a bitter reminder of her reckless decisions. Why had she thought such a reckless plan would work?
