**TITLE: Even the Night Couldn’t Silence Her Light**
**Chapter 158: Closing the Net**
Gordon’s thoughts drifted back to the moment he had spoken to the girl as they descended the mountain together. “If you wish to leave, then go. Do not burden yourself with anything else. My only hope is that you find happiness.” Those words echoed in his mind, a reminder of his intentions, a promise he had made to her.
His perception was sharp, and he understood Jasper’s game all too well. Jasper was leveraging their past, using it as a weapon to coerce the girl into returning. Gordon had made his share of blunders, but he was determined to rectify his mistakes, to make things right.
The door swung open and shut with a finality that resonated in the silence that followed. Gordon had resolved never to face Jasper again, regardless of who might attempt to sway him otherwise.
Jasper didn’t linger at the ancestral home; he departed in solitude, a shadow of his former self.
Devoid of Serene Pavilion’s resources, he was forced to rely solely on his own means. His mission was clear: find her. He would scour every corner, leave no stone unturned, and exhaust every avenue available to him.
Chandler had just stepped into the lobby of his firm when a phalanx of imposing bodyguards in black surrounded him, effectively blocking his path. He wasn’t taken aback by their presence. Raising his gaze to meet the approaching figure, he managed a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You actually have time to see me? What’s on your mind?”
“Where is she?” Jasper’s voice was as cold as steel.
“I’m afraid I don’t understand what you’re referring to,” Chandler replied, feigning ignorance.
With a flick of his wrist, Jasper signaled his men to advance, their movements swift and menacing.
“I strongly advise against this,” Chandler warned, his tone steady. “I have a crucial case to attend to in ten minutes. If I’m late, my client will be furious.”
Felix, having just finished a phone call, stepped forward with an anxious expression. He leaned in close to Chandler and whispered urgently, “Boss, we can’t touch him.”
Chandler was acutely aware that once Tatiana had gone missing, Jasper would inevitably come after him first. In anticipation, he had secured a safety net—he had taken on a high-profile case that was under the watchful eye of the authorities. This meant that he, as the lawyer, was also afforded a measure of protection.
Though Jasper wielded considerable influence, he knew that he couldn’t afford to make a misstep regarding such a delicate situation. After all, there were many who were eager for an opportunity to undermine the Jackson family and bring them crashing down.
Jasper’s expression darkened as he scrutinized Chandler, his gaze unyielding. After a tense moment, he reluctantly gestured for his men to release him.
“If there’s nothing further, I’ll return to my work,” Chandler said with an air of calm detachment.
As they passed each other, Jasper’s voice cut through the air. “Chandler, she doesn’t belong to you.”
Chandler’s smile widened, a glimmer of satisfaction in his eyes. “That’s true; she doesn’t belong to me. But she once belonged to you, and now you’ve lost her.” The weight of his words struck deep. To have once held something dear only to see it slip away was a cruelty all its own.
Felix, sensing the escalating tension, braced himself for a potential outburst from his boss, ready to intervene if necessary. But Jasper remained still, his expression unreadable.
Chandler turned to leave, but he could still hear Jasper’s voice behind him, resolute and defiant. “No one can take anything from me.”
With his back turned, Chandler allowed a sharp smile to creep onto his face. Inwardly, he mused, Then we shall see if you can emerge victorious this time.
Jasper found himself at an impasse. He couldn’t reach Chandler, and the elderly man was adamant about withholding his assistance. The former was concealing Tatiana, while the latter was obstructing his path to her.
