Chapter 171 A Fabricated World

Tatiana fidgeted nervously. “Dad, please don’t be angry…” she whispered.

The meal was agonizing. No one could stomach their food.

Chester, still angry, kept a stony expression. He left the table after just a few bites.

Lauren avoided looking at Tatiana’s face and tried to liven up the atmosphere by chatting about the

past.

“Mom, where’s Xavier?”

“Your brother…”

Just then, the door opened, and Xavier walked in.

“Xavier!”

She jumped up happily and threw herself at him.

Xavier suppressed the complex emotions in his eyes and caught her. “You’re back.”

Clearly, Jasper had gotten to Xavier as well.

To help Tatiana adjust, Jasper had intentionally constructed a fabricated world for her, one where everything was just as it was in the year she remembered. She was a truly happy little girl with loving parents, an adoring older brother, a doting grandfather, and the Jasper she loved with all her heart.

But a life like this couldn’t last.

Xavier looked at the innocent, carefree Tatiana and felt a pang of pity. As a doctor himself, he knew her condition wasn’t incurable. There were treatments available abroad that had a high chance of restoring her mental faculties.

He went to Jasper personally and proposed sending her overseas for treatment, but he was refused.

“She is fine as she is. She doesn’t need treatment.”

Xavier clenched his fists. “How is this ‘fine‘? She’s an adult with the mind of a child. She doesn’t understand anything! Do you have any idea what kind of ridicule she’ll face if she ever goes outside?”

“She doesn’t need to go outside. I will give her a safe world where no one will dare to laugh at her.”

No one doubted he could do it.

“How is that any different from keeping her a prisoner?” Xavier blurted out.

Jasper denied it. “It’s not imprisonment.”

“She can’t depend on you for the rest of her life!”

“She can.”

Xavier was floored. He gritted his teeth. “Jasper! Don’t forget you are Bianca’s husband! And Bianca is carrying your child!”

“Not legally.”

When Tatiana had died, her legal status was meant to be nullified, but he had prevented it. Later, when he and Bianca had their wedding, he had skipped the ceremony. It was never completed, and he had never legally changed his wife’s name. His wife was still Tatiana.

Ever since he learned of Bianca’s complete deception, he had wanted to kill her more than once. But she had an iron–clad insurance policy in her belly. With his parents protecting her, it wasn’t easy to do anything. He had cursed that one mistake, that one moment of carelessness, more than once.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his head. Fragmented images flashed through his mind, like someone relentlessly whispering in his ear: Bianca is carrying your child.

“Jasper, I don’t agree! My mentor is an authority in this field. I’ve already sent him Tati’s case, and he’s very interested. He’s willing to start treatment.”

Xavier’s words broke through the fragmented images, pulling his thoughts back.

He refused without hesitation. “No.”

Without his permission, no one could take Tatiana.

Xavier could no longer maintain his usual gentle, gentlemanly demeanor. He slammed his hands on the table. “You’re going to destroy her! Seven! She’s ‘seven years old! And she’s pregnant! How can you ask a child to be a mother?”

At five months, her pregnancy was just starting to show. Because she was so thin, the slight swell of her stomach was especially obvious. Even though she wore baggy clothes to hide it, Xavier, as a doctor, had noticed. He knew some traditional medicine and had taken her pulse, recognizing the “joyful pulse” of pregnancy. That’s what had spurred him to try and get her help.

Forcing someone with the mental capacity of a seven–year–old to become a mother was too cruel. It was a violation of nature.

But then, Jasper said something even more horrifying.

“Then she won’t be one.”

A chill ran up Xavier’s spine. “What… what do you mean?”

“She doesn’t need to be a mother. After the child is born, it will be taken care of.”

It could be sent to an orphanage or put up for adoption. Whatever. It just wouldn’t be staying with her, being an eyesore.

Xavier was so shocked his pupils contracted. His mouth opened and closed, but no words came out. Finally, he managed: “You’re… insane.”

“If there’s nothing else, you can go.”

The dismissal was clear.
