Chapter 36 Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire

She looked and saw a mineral water bottle. Just as she was about to lift it to drink, she had a second thought. She saw it was a brand she had never seen before, and she couldn’t even find a production date.

She slowly put the water down. She couldn’t bring herself to drink it.

Mindy glanced in the rearview mirror and said, “Sis, why aren’t you drinking? Not thirsty? I haven’t seen you drink any water this whole time!”

“I’m not thirsty. How much… longer?”

“It’s still a long way. We’ve got another six hours!”

She put the water down. Even though her throat was parched, she didn’t take a single sip.

Midway through the drive, they ran out of gas and had to stop at a gas station.

The area was remote. There was hardly anyone at the gas station, just their car.

While Mindy was pumping gas, she said, “If you need the toilet, it’s over there. Don’t wander off. We’ll leave as soon as I’m done.”

She nodded and went to the toilet.

When she came out, she took a detour to the convenience store next to it to buy water and food.

While checking out, she glanced up at the television, and her pupils shrank.

A missing person notice was scrolling across the screen.

The photo on it was her!

And below it was a reward amount: One hundred thousand!

She was actually worth a hundred thousand?

Jasper was that ruthless! He’d even post a reward to capture her!

“Miss, are you paying?”

She snapped back to reality, immediately using her hair to shield her face, and handed the items over. “Yes, paying.”

After paying, she kept her head down and hurried back toward the car.

She wanted to tell Mindy to hurry up and leave, to get out of Dalliston’s range sooner, otherwise it would be too late!

But just as she saw Mindy and was about to speak, she saw the woman had her back to her, talking on the phone in a muffled dialect.

“Yeah, right… a young girl, bad legs, doesn’t talk right, but she’s fair–skinned… that’s the one… been lookin‘ for a while, don’t keep them waiting… I’m bringing her over, just three hours, you wait to receive her… I’ll give her the water, she’s easier to handle asleep.”

This dialect was very similar to the accent of Su Zaiqiang and his wife, so she could understand it.

In an instant, it was as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.

The car drove for another hour. She clutched her stomach, pretending to be in pain. “I want… to use the toilet. My stomach hurts!”

“Sis, you have an upset stomach? There’s no toilet here. Can you hold it?”

“I can’t! Stop the car!”

Mindy, afraid she would actually make a mess in the car, had no choice but to find a place to

stop.

“You can just go in the woods. Don’t wander off, I’ll wait for you.”

“Okay.”

She got out of the car, feeling Mindy’s gaze fixed on her back. She found a hidden spot to squat, felt around, picked up a rock, and hid it in her pocket. She waited a while longer before getting up and walking back.

“Sorry… to trouble you.”

“No problem. Let’s go!”

“I’m a little thirsty.”

Mindy’s eyes lit up. She immediately grabbed the water from the back seat. “Quick, drink!”

This time, Tatiana didn’t refuse. She drank it right in front of her.

After finishing, she casually pulled out her bag, took out the other bottle of water, twisted it open, and handed it over. “You drink too.”

Mindy chuckled. “Sis, you’re so kind. Thanks, then!”
