Chapter 6 Abandoned by All

Tatiana didn’t move.

Bianca’s eyes darkened. “Not moving?”

Tatiana’s numb gaze slowly sharpened, her voice raspy. “I will… divorce. And I will… leave here.”

“Of course you’ll divorce! Of course you’ll leave! What, you still think you’re the Lowell family’s young lady? That someone will protect you? Keep dreaming! You’re nothing but a dog at my feet. If I tell you to sleep in the kennel, then that’s where you’ll sleep!”

Such humiliation no longer stirred Tatiana’s emotions.

In the reformatory, she had heard far worse.

Bianca, seeing no reaction, leaned closer and whispered, “How did the men taste?”

Tatiana’s head snapped up, her face drained of color. “You…”

“It was me who told the warden. I said you were cheap, that you couldn’t go a day without men. That you had to be kept full, preferably made to get pregnant again and again, only to lose it again and again. Hehehehe.”

Her once–numb heart clenched painfully.

During those four years, what she had feared most was not the daily punishments, not the electric shocks-

but when night fell and the locks were forced open.

The two–faced warden, the burly orderlies, they were everywhere.

To avoid their violation, she had gagged herself until she vomited, covering herself in filth so they would be repulsed. The repeated damage had left her with severe esophageal corrosion and chronic stomach disease.

Some of the orderlies hadn’t cared, stripping her anyway. She had bitten through her tongue once, nearly dying in the process.

Afraid she truly would die, they had saved her–but the damage left her with a stutter.

From then on, they didn’t dare use brute force.

But that didn’t stop them. Instead, they drugged her with the strongest aphrodisiacs.

One sympathetic nurse secretly gave her medicine that prolonged her cycle, though it damaged her body.

She had taken it for four years straight, leaving her infertile.

Tatiana’s hand lashed out in a slap.

“Stop!”

Before she could touch even a strand of Bianca’s hair, her wrist was seized and shoved hard.

She crashed to the gravel, skin tearing, shards embedding in her palms, pain making her gasp.

“Tatiana! What are you doing!”

The familiar voice made her lift her head slowly, a single word falling from her lips. “Xavier..”

It was Xavier, the Lowell family’s eldest son–the brother who had once adored her.

The only one who had still treated her kindly when the truth of her parentage had come out.

But when Jasper had sent her to the reformatory, Xavier had gone abroad for training. He couldn’t save her.

Now, seeing him again, Tatiana felt as if she had found her savior. She struggled to her feet, reaching out just as she had in childhood. “Xavier, you’re back, I, I…”

But before she could touch him, Xavier stepped back.

Her hand grasped empty air. She froze.

Xavier turned to Bianca, his expression full of concern. “Are you all right? Did she hurt you?”

Xavier’s frown deepened as he turned to Tatiana. “If I hadn’t come just now, what would you have done to Bianca? Hit her? Is this your upbringing?”

Each word of reproach crashed down, dazing Tatiana.

Her gaze slid from Xavier’s disappointed eyes to the way he shielded Bianca, and she understood everything.

Four years had passed. He wasn’t her brother anymore.

Her parents, the man she loved, the brother she admired–they all stood on the other side now,

Her body shook as she coughed violently.

Xavier’s expression shifted, instinctively moving to steady her.

But just then, Bianca swayed, her voice soft and pained. “Xavier, I don’t feel well…”

Her eyes fluttered closed, and she collapsed.

Xavier scooped her up, rushing out in panic. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll take you to the hospital!”

He passed by without a glance back.

If he had turned, even once, he would have seen the drops of blood on the ground, the ghostly pallor of Tatiana’s face.

But there were no ifs.

Tatiana bent over, hacking up a thick, dark pool of blood into her palm.

She stared at it, dazed.
