Xavier was puzzled but located Tatiana’s medical report from that time. “Why are you looking for this? Tatiana is already…” He couldn’t force himself to say the word ‘dead‘.

Jasper ignored him, studying the report intently. All the data looked good; she was perfectly healthy. But when his gaze landed on the weight column, his pupils constricted.

“This isn’t Tatiana’s medical report.”

“What?”

“This wasn’t her weight.”

The report listed her weight as 50kg.

But the Tatiana who left the rehabilitation center weighed nowhere near that. She was painfully thin, with almost no flesh on her bones.

Xavier looked at it and subconsciously asked, “How do you know?”

He dodged the question. “Who issued this report?”

If the report was fake, then what Chandler said was very likely true.

“It was my junior. Jasper, what are you suspecting?”

“Get your junior in here.”

Xavier frowned. “Jasper, are you accusing my junior of falsifying the report?”

“Yes.” He didn’t bother to hide it.

Xavier found this incredible and denied it outright. “Impossible. He’s always been meticulous in his work. He would never make such a serious error.”

Jasper didn’t argue. He simply dispatched his men to apprehend the doctor who had issued the

report.

The doctor was already consumed with guilt. When Jasper’s men dragged him in, his heart leaped into his throat. He cracked almost immediately, without any real interrogation.

“Yes! I… I made a mistake. I accidentally mixed up the reports. I’m so sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose.”

“Where is the real report.”

“I’ll… I’ll find it for you right now.”

Xavier was stunned. “Rowan, how could you make a mistake this serious?”

“There were just too many patients that day… the system glitched… when I re–sorted the files, I must have…”

They were all excuses.

There was no “mistake.”

He had only taken the risk and falsified it because he’d been paid enough. He had assumed no one cared about Tatiana, that it would all be swept under the rug. Why was Jasper suddenly digging up the past?

He couldn’t bring himself to read any further.

Xavier suddenly lunged forward and grabbed his junior by the collar. “Why did you mix them up! How could you make a mistake on something this important?”

So she wasn’t faking it. She was really, truly sick.

But not a single person had believed her.

He thought back to everything he had done. He had accused her, blamed her, and locked her outside to “reflect.” When she begged him, time and time again, he had cruelly ignored her.

Xavier had never felt a guilt so profound, so thick it was suffocating. His hand on the man’s collar was trembling, his voice growing stronger. “You don’t deserve to be a doctor!”

Xavier’s hands trembled as he let go. He stumbled back, opening his mouth to explain, but he was speechless.

It was true. There had been so many signs, and he had ignored every single one. What right did he have to blame anyone else? This was all his fault.

Xavier’s eyes reddened. He clenched his fists, muttering hoarsely, “He’s right. It was my fault. I should have seen it. I don’t deserve to be her brother!”

Even after discovering Tatiana wasn’t a Lowell, he had always thought of her as his sister.

But the person who had called him “brother” for twenty years was dead. His negligence was the reason she died so suddenly.

Jasper, standing silently to the side, lowered his gaze, his jaw clenched. A flicker of regret crossed his eyes.
