His explanation made me let out an unreserved scoff. Even at this juncture, he just wouldn’t admit it.

I kept my voice steady, yet it exuded an unprecedented, almost Alpha-like dominance that came through the phone clearly. “Since no one can replace me, I want you to seriously think over my original offer. Agree to my terms, and I’ll go back to sort out the mess in Thorn Pack.”

I took a brief pause, speaking with a composed air of knowing it all, “As I’ve heard, several key projects in the pack have hit a dead-end, and the partners are sitting on the fence. Keep this up, and forget about territory expansion. You might not even hold on to the current interests.”

There was zero room for compromise in my words. Despite my voice still being as charming as ever, every syllable carried an unfamiliar air of authority.

My words shattered his last layer of pretense. In less than half a month since our separation, it seemed he finally woke up to the fact that I was no longer the low-ranking Beta who could be easily manipulated and would offer selfless devotion.

“Natalie!” His voice shot up, laced with the humiliation of being exposed. “Come clean. Do you have someone else?”

“What?” I put on a puzzled look.

Landon practically bellowed, trying to mask his unease with rage, “That morning! A guy answered your phone! Who the hell is he? I’ve always had blind faith in you! The pack was at a critical stage, and I still gave you leave. I got it when you were stressed out and snapped because of my mom and sister. I’ve loved you so much and put up with you. Don’t you remember how I fought all the pressure, inside and outside the pack, just to be with you? And Nathan! For you, I was ready to forsake my own bloodline and adopt that pup. Is it all for a bit of gain that you’re gonna betray me and our pack?

“Natalie, you weren’t like this before!”

Was I really not like this before?

Yeah, in the past, I was such a fool, believing love was the be-all and end-all. I was willing to be used and hoodwinked.

But Landon didn’t deserve to be a werewolf at all. He and his secretly-bonded Omega were the real double-crossers!

A seething rage welled up inside me, pushing me to the brink of losing control. But I tightened my fists until my nails dug deep into my palms, using the sharp pain as an anchor to regain my

composure.

Taking a long, steadying breath, I retorted with as even a tone as I could manage, “Landon, you were the one who came after me in the first place. It wasn’t like I was dead-set on tying myself to Thorn Pack. And it was your call to take in Nathan, even though he can’t stand me. As for the whole profit thing…”

My voice turned icy. “I’ve been the one building up the Thorn Pack’s core business over the past two years, and I haven’t seen a single dime from it. This fifty-percent share and the earnings? That’s rightfully mine. In the werewolf world, it’s totally normal for me to bail and find a new pack or go solo if I’m not getting what I deserve. Just because we have a mate bond doesn’t mean you can use me up, you know?”

I laid extra stress on “mate bond,” like it was a punch right to his gut. And just like I expected, he clammed up, looking like someone had squeezed the air out of him.
