Looking up, I spotted Leonardo standing there. It was evident he’d just returned, carrying a wisp of the chill from outside. His arrival instantly altered the room’s atmosphere. A potent Alpha presence of his own wafted out, yet rather than being stifling, it offered a peculiar sense of safety.

“Mr. Sanchez, you’re back,” I blurted out, a bit surprised, my cheeks warming up. Fiona had told me he’d be back really late.

“Thought it was serious. How’re you feeling now?” Leonardo ignored my question and strode over to the bedside. His voice was calm, but the worry in it was obvious.

Fiona let go of my hand. Her face was all rosy, nothing like how she’d sounded on the phone.

“Yeah, it was rough earlier, but after chatting with Natalie for a while, I’m feeling a whole lot better.” Fiona gave a little cough and shot me an embarrassed look. “Leon, you gotta thank Natalie for me. She ditched work to be here with me.”

Leonardo was left speechless for a moment.

“No worries. It was my pleasure.” I stood up right away. “It’s getting late. I’d better head out.”

“Hey, Natalie, hold your horses! The weather’s taking a turn. Looks like there’ll be a big storm tonight.” Fiona signaled the servant with a look.

The servant caught on right away. “Yeah, the wind’s picking up. Rain’s on the way.”

“It’s so late, and the weather’s going south. Why don’t you stay over? Leonardo can drive you to work tomorrow. We’ve got everything you need here.” Fiona got up quickly and grabbed my hand, not showing any sign of that supposed leg injury.

“Take it easy on your leg…” I said.

“Oh, it’s fine now. All thanks to you,” she smiled at Leonardo, giving him a nudge with her eyes.

Leonardo rubbed his temples, clearly fed up with his grandma’s tricks. He looked at me and said, “If you don’t stay, Grandma won’t get a wink of sleep.”

“Alright then.” It’d be rude to say no, especially after Leonardo had spoken up.

Fiona beamed, told the servant to make the arrangements, and said she was gonna hit the hay, leaving Leonardo to keep me company.

Leonardo’s POV:

A “mission-accomplished” look on Fiona’s face had me both helpless and amused. She always put her expectations across in such a simple and direct way. Natalie seemed a bit embarrassed but didn’t really push back.

As we made our way to the living room, the air held a faint, uniquely sweet fragrance from her, distinct from other werewolves. I appreciated that she’d ditched a party for Fiona.

“Mr. Sanchez, so sorry. I had no clue she was trying to… Did it screw up your work?” she said in a soft, apologetic voice.

“Don’t worry about it. You’re the one who made a special trip here,” I replied. I’d actually skipped a minor meeting to get home.

“No biggie… Your grandma’s been super nice to me. It’s just right to make her feel okay,” she said, and subtly tipped me off about the maids sneaking peeks.

I’d already caught on. “My grandparents are like this. You’ll get the hang of it. Next time, if it’s a hassle, just say no,” I told her, not wanting her to feel on the spot.

But Natalie shook her head. “Truth is, I was looking forward to seeing you today. I bagged the Scott Group project, and it’s all because of you. I’ve been meaning to thank you.”

“Just a small move. No need to be so grateful,” I said. The investment was a business call, though I admitted she’d played a part.

“I’m not just being polite. I really wanna do something for you. Let me figure out how to thank you,” she muttered to herself.

The word “thank” from her, with such genuine sincerity, gave me a little jolt inside.

“Mr. Sanchez, have you eaten yet?” Natalie suddenly looked up, her eyes alight.

“Not yet. I rushed back in a hurry,” I said.

“Great! I’ll whip up a meal for you,” Natalie grinned. That smile chased away the usual tiredness on her face, making her look so alive.
