Colin quickly interjected, “Dad, Lillian’s personality has completely changed since she got out of prison. She’s not close to us anymore. Scold her if you must, but please don’t lay a hand on her.”
Brandon added, “Dad, Colin’s right.”
Seeing that both of the Mercer sons were advising against it, Sabrina felt she ought to say something as well. She chimed in, “Martin, you raised Lillian like a princess in the palm of your hand. How could you possibly hit her?”
This only made Martin Mercer angrier. “It's a father's fault if his child isn't raised right! It's because I spoiled her so much before that she’s turned out like this.
I didn’t discipline her enough back then, so I need to correct her now, before she strays any further.
A family should live in harmony. Before she came back, wasn't our home so peaceful?
She's still living in a hotel, and she’s already turned our family upside down and caused endless trouble. Will we ever have a moment's peace in the future?”
Sabrina looked down at Bella, a smile almost breaking through her feigned concern.
Brandon and Colin were at a loss for words.
Throughout the entire evening, Sebastian’s expression had been grim.
Seeing his son-in-law's displeasure, Martin also felt uneasy.
Bella let out a soft moan, immediately capturing Sebastian’s attention.
“Bella, where does it hurt? Should I take you to the hospital? You can't handle your liquor; you must have had too much tonight.”
Bella shook her head, indicating she didn't want to go.
Martin, seeing Sebastian’s expression soften slightly, felt a little less worried.
Although Lillian had upset Sebastian, at least they still had Bella.
As long as Bella could keep Sebastian's heart, it would be just as beneficial.
For the Mercer family, it was a good thing either way.
Martin's resentment towards Lillian grew. It was bad enough that she didn't have Bella's business acumen, but he had given her the body and looks of a top-tier woman, and she couldn't even hold on to one man.
Thank goodness for Bella!
Bella must have overplayed her act. Seeing her in such distress, Sebastian swept her up into his arms and carried her out, heading for the hospital.
—
When Lillian woke up again, she was in a hospital.
Next to her bed, under the warm, dim light, Leonard’s face was like something out of a comic book, framed by a soft filter, impossibly handsome.
He was tall and long-limbed, sitting on the sofa with his legs casually crossed, a thin laptop on his lap as he worked on something.
From Lillian's angle, she could only see his beautiful hands dancing across the keyboard.
His profile and posture were like a work of art, a truly pleasing sight.
Leonard, busy with his work, didn’t even lift his head, yet he suddenly spoke. “Do you need me to change my position?”
Lillian was confused. “???”
Leonard continued, “To give you a better view.”
