Leonard looked at Lillian. Even at a time like this, she could still crack a joke.
But the two tear tracks running down her face were very real.
Leonard raised his elegant hands to wipe her tears away.
“Sebastian is a real piece of work. He completely ignores his own wife, but he’s all over a subordinate with such intimate concern.”
Lillian corrected him, “You’ve got it wrong. My existence is just getting in the way of them making things official.”
Leonard scoffed. “Then he could choose to get a divorce before fawning over another woman. A man with character like that isn't worth you pouring so many resources into him back in the day.”
Lillian looked at him. “You even investigated that?”
“Well, I have to care about my kidney, don’t I?”
A commotion suddenly erupted outside, interrupting their conversation.
Through the door, they could see a group of doctors rushing down the hall. No need to ask—they were heading to see Bella.
Leonard grumbled, “She just had too much to drink. Is all this drama necessary? Anyone who didn't know better would think it was a critical medical emergency.”
Leonard’s appearance was refined, striking, and carried a hint of morbid indifference that warned people to keep their distance.
But once you got to know him, he was sharp-tongued and considerate—a stark contrast to his exterior.
In the other hospital room.
A crowd of medical staff surrounded the bed. Sebastian asked, “How is she?”
The head physician replied respectfully, “Mr. Blake, Miss Ward will be fine. Once the IV drip is finished and she sobers up, she’ll be perfectly alright after a good night’s sleep. She can return to her normal life and work tomorrow. Please don't worry.”
Sabrina interjected, “Bella was in so much pain tonight, and she has to work tomorrow?”
Martin wrapped an arm around her waist, soothing her. “She won’t have to work. We’ll let our Bella rest at home tomorrow. I’ll have the kitchen make some of her favorite dishes to help her recover.”
Sebastian said, “The project Bella is handling is at a critical stage...”
Bella’s eyes fluttered open, and she put on a brave face. “I’m fine. I can get back to work after a little rest.”
Sebastian continued, “The main thing is, without you there, I’m afraid the team won’t be able to manage.”
Bella reached out and took Sebastian’s hand, giving him a faint smile.
Sebastian squeezed her hand in return.
Martin turned and scolded Brandon again. “Remember this, your sister can’t hold her liquor. Next time you’re at an event like this, keep an eye on her. Don’t let her get drunk.”
