Leonard personally delivered breakfast to Lillian's bedside, startling her out of a deep reverie. She'd been so lost in thought she'd almost bitten her own finger.
"What are you thinking about so intently?" he asked. "Or is today's breakfast not to your liking? Planning to supplement it with your own finger?"
Lillian gave an embarrassed smile. "Family stuff. Sorry."
She took the breakfast tray from him and began to eat.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Leonard offered. "I happen to have dabbled in various industries, so I have resources that can be mobilized at a moment's notice. If you're having trouble at work, I have a few very competent programmers at Aurellia I could lend you. Or, for instance, if you're not feeling well, my medical resources are second to none. Feel free to use them however you like."
The last sentence made Lillian's eyes light up. *Medical resources, second to none, use them however you like!* This was exactly what she had been trying to figure out.
She shot to her feet. "Leonard, you can actually help me with that. My grandmother has been in a vegetative state for two years. I went to see her yesterday, but my access to her room was revoked. So I'm planning to buy a house, equip it with the best medical gear, and hire top doctors to treat her."
"That's no problem at all," Leonard said. "But... first, you have to promise to stay here with me, so we can facilitate both our treatments."
Lillian immediately assumed this was about the kidney. He was afraid his living organ donor might run off, leaving him high and dry. She smiled. "Don't worry, I promised you a kidney, and I'm not going to run out on you. When the time comes, it's yours. But I'm imposing on you by staying here. Since I've decided to move my grandmother, I'm going to buy my own house. I'll hire doctors, nurses, and caregivers. So you won't have to worry about me dying alone and wasting a perfectly good kidney."
Leonard had barely touched his breakfast. He suddenly lost his appetite. He put down his fork and knife. "Let me think about it."
Lillian didn't think anything of it. "About organizing the medical resources? Thank you so much, Leonard. We've only known each other a short time, and I've already troubled you so much."
Leonard glanced at his watch. "You're going to be late for work."
Lillian checked the time and realized he was right. She quickly gathered her things and headed for the door, calling back over her shoulder, "Today's breakfast was delicious!"
As Lillian exited the blue hospital room door, she happened to be spotted by Colin. But with all the drama in the family these past few days, and with Sabrina scheduled to be discharged today, Colin decided it was better not to stir up more trouble. He kept what he saw to himself.
Inside the room, Leonard said, "Clear this away."
"Sir, is that all you're eating?" Ethan asked.
