Lillian was beyond shocked.
As she remembered it, in the three years of their marriage before her imprisonment, the number of times they had been intimate could be counted on one hand. Sebastian was reserved and self-controlled, seemingly uninterested in physical matters. He poured most of his energy into his work; he was a notorious workaholic.
Lillian had even sought advice and was told that some people just naturally have a low libido. So, she never pushed him. The time she conceived Noah was only because the Blake family, desperate for an heir, had lit aphrodisiac incense in their bedroom. She only found out about it afterward, but since she was pregnant and Sebastian seemed happy, she let it go.
But now, after two years in prison, with his idealized love right by his side, why would his first thought be to sleep with her?
Lillian told herself she must be overthinking it.
She was afraid that if she pushed him away, and it turned out he had booked the hotel for a reason other than sex, she would look like the one who was desperate for it.
And so, Lillian let Sebastian lead her out of the Mercer house.
Sebastian’s car was waiting at the door. He’d gotten a new one in the past two years, more expensive than the last. The Blake family business was clearly thriving.
Sebastian held the door open for her. Lillian glanced at him, wanting to know what he was really up to. He couldn’t seriously want to sleep with her, could he? It was probably just an excuse to talk to her privately.
Fine. She would hear him out.
Lillian had just gotten into the car when Bella came out.
Sebastian’s expression shifted slightly when he saw her.
Through the car window, Lillian could see the disappointment on Bella’s face.
Sebastian walked over to her. Lillian couldn’t hear what they said; the car’s soundproofing was excellent. A moment later, they parted. Bella forced a smile, putting on an act of a virtuous, understanding wife magnanimously stepping aside for her.
Then Sebastian got in the car and sat beside her.
In the confined, private space, a heavy silence fell between them, so quiet they could hear each other's heartbeats.
Lillian couldn't be bothered to speak first, so they drove to the hotel in silence.
The room had indeed been prepared in advance. There were roses. The atmosphere was intimate, and the scent of burning incense made Lillian’s brow furrow instantly. She was highly sensitive to this smell. Five years ago, the Blake family had used this same incense in their bedroom, and it was the only reason the abstinent Sebastian had slept with her that night, conceiving Noah.
So, she hadn’t been overthinking it.
He hadn’t brought her here for a private conversation. This was exactly his plan. He had booked a hotel room, decorated it, all because he wanted to sleep with her.
Was he insane?
Lillian froze at the doorway.
She looked up at him. “Sebastian, do you love me?”
Love? It was a word Sebastian had never said to her.
