Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 51

“Rent?” Lillian considered it. “That could work. I could get Grandma and Mom out sooner, and then find a place just like this.”

It was only then that Leonard realized Lillian had no intention of staying here long-term.

“How about this? The house, and all the services that come with it, on a hundred-year lease for five million. Just a little something to give me some pocket money.”

Lillian stared at him. “A hundred years? For five million? Including services? Mr. Prescott, are you sure you didn’t leave off a zero?”

“Just think of it as you and your family keeping me company so I don’t get too lonely,” Leonard said.

If Leonard's offer had been even slightly less perfect, she might have refused. But the conditions were ideal. She knew the city well enough to understand how difficult it would be to find a place where she could house both her grandmother and her mother. Her grandmother's health required extensive medical resources, and her mother’s condition necessitated a lot of space. The acres of gardens out back would give her mother a place to roam freely and relax.

“Leonard, are you sure you don’t want to charge more? I feel like I’m taking advantage of you.”

At that, Leonard crossed his arms protectively over his chest. “Lillian, how could you say such a thing? We’re just living together. Don’t go tarnishing my good name.”

She couldn’t help but laugh at his antics. He was right, in a way. He was just offering her a convenience. Whether it was five million or fifty million, it wasn't like he was short on cash.

“Thank you, Leonard.”

“The medical resources and recovery environment here are top-notch. You can bring your grandmother and mother over whenever you’re ready.”

“I might need a little more time before I can get them out.”

“Why? Are they refusing to let them go?” Leonard was aware of the Mercer family’s situation.

Seeing the look on Lillian’s face, he added, “Don’t worry. If it comes to it, we’ll just take them by force. I’ve got more than enough men for the job.”

Lillian replied, “Don’t worry, I won’t hesitate to take you up on that.”

For her, nothing was more important than her grandmother and her mother.

With the house settled, medical resources secured, and even a team ready to extract them if necessary, Lillian knew it was time to talk to the Mercer family about her grandmother and mother.
