Lillian hadn't intended to seek revenge before. Her time was limited, but now, she wanted to live as long as she possibly could.
The longer she lived, the more she could accomplish.
Lillian handed over all her personal identification to Ethan, asking him to handle the company registration on her behalf.
She, on the other hand, made a trip back to the prison.
She had been released early on medical parole, which meant she had to report back periodically.
Her two years in prison had been a mixed bag. The first guard had made her life difficult, but the one she had later, Officer Elaine, had been quite congenial. She had allowed Lillian to read, study, and even use a computer under supervision.
On this trip back to report, Lillian also hoped to ask for her help.
After completing all the necessary procedures, Lillian finally spoke up.
"Officer Elaine, there's something I was hoping you could help me with."
"You tutored my son with his homework and fixed my computer. I haven't even had a chance to properly thank you for that. Whatever you need, just ask."
Officer Elaine was a single mother with a rebellious and unmotivated teenage son.
Whenever she had to work overtime or on a night shift, she would sometimes bring him to the office.
During that time, Lillian had been assigned to cleaning duties and happened to help the boy with a couple of math problems.
Later, when he was struggling to defeat a boss in a video game, she had effortlessly carried him to victory.
After that, whenever Lillian came to the office, Officer Elaine would take over the cleaning tasks, and Lillian would help with her son.
Unexpectedly, after a few months, the boy's grades improved, and he became more confident and obedient.
Officer Elaine had been overjoyed.
However, she still felt a pang of guilt. She had submitted several applications for Lillian's medical parole, but they had all been rejected. There was only so much she could do as a low-level staff member. The higher-ups wouldn't approve it, and even her attempts to offer gifts had failed to help.
Fortunately, it was eventually approved, and Lillian was able to get out for treatment.
Lillian didn't have any other connections within the prison system, so she had to rely on Officer Elaine's help.
"I'd like to get a copy of the files from when I was first imprisoned. I'm not sure if that would be difficult to obtain."
Officer Elaine replied, "The files? That's no problem. I can copy them from the computer database and send them to you later. Lillian, how is your health?"
Lillian nodded. "I've only had one episode. I've been feeling fine since then."
Officer Elaine noticed Lillian's hesitation and said forthrightly, "You don't have to hold back with me. If there's something else, just tell me."
Lillian said, "My applications for medical parole were repeatedly blocked. I was hoping to find out why."
