Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 8

Neither the Blake nor the Mercer family knew the grim reality of Lillian’s health. Yet, even in her condition, she went to the hospital for the necessary tests, determined to try, refusing to let go of that last sliver of hope.

Back at the Blake estate.

When Noah heard that his mother was refusing to have a baby brother or sister to save him, and that she had run away from home, he burst into tears.

“I don’t want a mommy like that! She’s a bad woman! Daddy, divorce her and marry Auntie Bella! I want Auntie Bella to be my mommy!

“Let Auntie Bella have the baby brother or sister. I don’t want this mommy!”

Bella put on a troubled expression, turning to comfort Sebastian. “Sebastian, do you think she has some misunderstanding about me? I could talk to her. Right now, the child’s health is the most important thing.”

Sebastian told his son, “Noah, children shouldn’t say such things. Your mother is your mother. She loves you very much. She just got back and isn't used to things yet. Don’t ever say that again and embarrass her.”

Nearby, Sabrina came over, exchanged a glance with Bella, and added, “If Lillian won’t have the child, Sebastian, you’d better think of another plan.

“Lillian has been pampered her whole life. Maybe if you humble yourself and beg her, she might agree.”

Sabrina's words instantly enraged Martin.

“It’s all my fault. I spoiled her too much, and that’s why she’s so willful. Don’t you worry, son-in-law. She’s my daughter, and I’ll handle her. I guarantee I’ll have her back here, ready to have your child.”

Sebastian cautioned, “Don’t push her too hard.”

Sabrina sighed dramatically. “Poor Noah. The doctor said he doesn’t have much time.”

This made Martin even more anxious. “I’ll find a way right now. Even if I have to tie her up, I will drag that rebellious daughter of mine back here.”

Lillian was at the hospital and checked into a hotel for the night.

She couldn’t pin all her hopes on having a child herself. If her body couldn’t handle it, she would need to find another way.

After a shower, she ordered a laptop. As soon as it arrived, she started researching.

Calling in a few old favors, she managed to get the email address of a top-tier medical specialist.

Just as she sent out her inquiry, a headline popped up on her screen.

[Her Son Is Dying, But This Mother Refuses to Save Him. Does She Deserve to Be a Mother?]

The headline hit too close to home.

With a trembling hand, she clicked on it. The article described a situation identical to hers.

Lillian understood immediately. Someone had leaked her story to the media.

They were trying to use public opinion, to judge and condemn her from a moral high ground.

She was shaking with rage when a new email notification appeared in the corner of her screen.

She opened it. It was a reply from the specialist she had just contacted.

The message was clear: unless she treated her own illness first, pregnancy was out of the question.

Any attempt to force a conception would likely result in miscarriage at best, or far more severe consequences at worst.
