Nathan couldn't stand the thought of having to see those two regularly during the partnership.
It was infuriating, absolutely disgusting.
The entire Blake Group seemed to be under some kind of spell, as if everyone had tacitly agreed that Sebastian and Bella were a couple.
Nathan couldn't take it. After the meeting, he went straight back to his company, selected a promising talent from his reserves, promoted them to general manager, and put them in charge of the joint project.
From now on, this new manager would handle all communications and meetings, and then report back to him.
Still fuming, Nathan arranged for a lavish dinner and invited Lillian and Professor Avery to come and listen to him vent.
Lillian had had a long day and was starving, so as soon as she sat down, she focused on eating.
Professor Avery, seeing her good appetite, smiled and passed the best dishes over to Lillian.
Amidst Nathan's ranting, Professor Avery said, "You've lost so much weight. Eat up, you need to get your strength back."
Nathan complained, "You should have seen Sebastian's face. I certainly don't want to see it a second time.
"What kind of person is he, belittling Li right in front of me? Who does he think he is to even have that right?"
As he was complaining, Professor Avery moved a dish of shrimp in front of Lillian.
Lillian ate with gusto, completely ignoring Nathan.
Finally, when both Lillian and Professor Avery were full and the plates were nearly empty, Nathan realized something was off.
"Wait, did you eat everything? You seriously didn't save any for me?"
Lillian wiped her mouth and summarized, "You did the right thing today."
Nathan looked confused for a moment. "What did I do right?"
Professor Avery explained, "Lillian is saying that you did the right thing by promoting a general manager to handle the project with the Blake Group.
"You don't like seeing Sebastian, and he probably doesn't want to see you either.
"The partnership has to continue one way or another, so there's no need to prolong the mutual torture."
Nathan asked, "Li, how can you be so calm about this?"
Lillian picked up her bag and stood up, ready to leave. "I've started working on the low-altitude logistics project. I'm planning to start my own business, and this will be my company's first project. If you're interested, you can come by for the launch. I'll even give you a stake in it."
Nathan had been so overwhelmed with work these past few days. "Li, are you serious? You're starting your own company?"
Lillian nodded.
