Forgotten Wife: My Ex-Husband Regrets It After I Left novel Chapter 168

Sienna’s POV

The main door opened slowly, then came the noise of steps I knew well.

Noah quickly turned from his seat and yelled in joy,

Daddy!before leaping down and rushing to say hi to him.

I grinned from the kitchen, still holding a dish I had just cleaned. A bit later, Liam showed up at the entrance of the dining room. His face seemed worn, but his eyes brightened right away when he saw what was there, our jumbled dining table, the smell of tomato sauce in the air and Noah hanging on to his legs.

Well, it seems like I got here at the right time,he said, glancing down at Noah. What have you both been doing here?

Noah hit his chest happily. We made pasta! Mom cooked and I helped mix the sauce!

Liam lifted a brow, staring at me with a small grin. Really? Then can daddy come for dinner?

I stared at him for a bit, faking to ponder. Hmmmaybe. But just if you clean your hands first.

He laughed, his walk easy as he went to the sink. Okay then, Chef and Sous Chef I’ll follow your kitchen rules.

Liam strolled to the sink easily, pushing up his sleeves to his elbows. The noise of flowing water filled the room as he gently cleaned his hands with soap. From where I stood in the kitchen, I could see his reflection in a small mirror over the sink. His hair was a bit messy, but there was something softer than normal in his look. Maybe it was the tiredness or maybe he was just liking the calm beauty of this moment, a home, a child and smell of cooked food.

Noah was still at the table looking at the leftover sauce in the pan like it was a work of art. Mommy can I have a bit more?he asked, his eyes shining.

I chuckled a bit. You can, but only one spoon.

He fastly took a small amount, puffed on it softly, then tried it. Mmm, so nice! Daddy is going to love it!

I looked at him and gave a little nod. You helped Mom a whole bunch today. Dad’s gonna be proud.

Noah smiled and dashed to Liam who just turned off the tap.

Daddy, I help cook!he said, pulling at Liam’s hand.

Liam leaned down, messing the boy’s hair lovingly. Then Daddy has to give you a ten out of ten.

Noah giggled. A big ten!

I saw them from far away, a nice feeling grew softly in my heart something I hadn’t had for a long time. Then I noticed how calm this plain moment was, a dad and his boy, giggling together in a kitchen that before felt too

bare.

All set to eat, chef? Liam asked, turning toward me with a smile as he came close.

I nodded. Just a sec I’ll grab the plates ready.

He stood by the table, helping me place the spoons and forks. His moves were smooth, like his hands still knew the beat of these little family fits. I missed this kind moment,he said quietly, nearly to himself.

I acted like I didn’t hear, keeping busy with the dishes and pouring the noodles from the pot into a bowl. But inside, his words echoed softening, touching something weak in me.

Noah got up into his seat, trying to sit right. Daddy, sit here!he said, tapping the seat next to him.

Liam chuckled, obeying his son’s order. Okay, small cook, I’ll stay here.

Mom sits there! Noah pointed to the seat across from them.

I sat across from them and let out a quiet sigh. Okay, is everyone ready?

Noah raised his hand high. Ready!

Liam looked at me, his grin soft yet cozy. Thanks for making food, I know you might be worn out.

I moved my head a bit. Not much. It really feels good.

He nodded slightly. I’m glad to hear that.

The mood at the table was peaceful, washed in the gentle glow of the setting sun coming through the window. Outside, the sky changed to light orange, and the smell of tomato sauce blended with cheese filled air. Noah looked proudly at his work, while Liam watched me quiet like he wanted to say something but picked to keep it

The night felt nice in a plain way. I fixed a spare plate for Liam while Noah softly shook cheese on the pasta.

So Dad will like it Mommy,he said carefully.

When the three of us sat down at last, it hit me how few times like this were now. It felt like a missing part of life had found its way back.

Liam had his first nibble and gazed at me, eyes big with shock. This is truly nice.

I chuckled. So that means I did well?

Better than good,he said, keeping my look a bit longer than he ought to have. There was something in his eyes a blend of respect and a feeling I couldn’t really label.

Noah was munching happily. Dad has to hand out grades, like in school!he said all of a sudden.

Liam simulated deep thoughts. Agreed, for the taste ten, dear. For presentation, ten. The chef looked at me with a playful smile, Eleven.

The only thing left was to shake my head, laugh mellowly, and look down to avoid disturbing Noah’s warm

cheeks.

Noah was engrossed in the score that his father presented as eleven. And the sound of his laughter in that small dining room only added to the warmth. The two individuals who had become the center of my life, I

chuckled and gazed at them. The feeling of gratitude was quiet yet comforting.

Liam looked at Noah in love with pure fervor. After feeding him, he continued to consume his own food. The soft pulsing of cutlery and the aroma of tomato sauce permeated the air. There was no significant exchange, but we were no longer uncomfortable. Instead, there was a sense of intimacy that developed naturally and without any external influence.
