Chapter 17 From Today On, We’re Done
Renee glared at Caroline with venom, teeth clenched tight.

Caroline did not even bother to acknowledge her, instead turning to Patricia. “I want the shares and funds my parents left me! I’m breaking off the engagement–I want nothing more to do with Jonathan, that lying, cheating scumbag!
“Otherwise, what I have here will ruin the Lowlands s completely.”
Patricia was just one step in her plan.
First reason, then force–that was Caroline’s style.
“You dare ask for fund shares? Those belong to the Lowlands!”
Jonathan suddenly shouted, no longer caring about the humiliation of the scene. He lunged at Caroline, trying to snatch the camera from her hand.
However, Caroline had not been training for nothing lately. Jonathan was nothing but a weak, pretty boy, so he was not worth a second thought
She dodged and kicked him square in the knee, forcing him to fall right in front of Patricia.
The problem was that Jonathan was not wearing anything. To fall like that before Patricia, and right in front of Renee as well was beyond embarrassing.
Renee let out a sharp scream, covering her face as she ran out.
Watching the ridiculous scene, Caroline thought Jonathan was nothing but a fool with no backbone. What a disgrace.
Patricia’s hands trembled with rage as she pointed at Caroline. “Caroline, what exactly do you want?”

Caroline curled her lip. Was the old woman deaf?
Hadn’t she just said what she wanted?
So Caroline repeated herself. Patricia glared at her, anger plain on her face, but Caroline could tell she was hesitating.
“Mrs. Lowland, you know as well as I do this isn’t going to end quietly. Your grandson’s heart was never with me, and forced marriages never end well. Plus, I have evidence that could destroy your family’s reputation. Do you really want mutual destruction? This footage is backed up online. Even if you destroy this device, you can’t stop me. All you’ll do is make me your enemy.”
Caroline did not bother dragging it out anymore as she laid all her cards on the table.
Jonathan scrambled to the side to put on clothes, his shame written all over his face.
Patricia finally said, “I’m afraid we can’t give you all the shares. The Lowlands put years of effort into managing them.”
“I know. Give me 20 million, and we’ll call it settled.”
Those shares and funds were worth at least 30 million.
By asking for 20, Caroline was already giving them the better deal.
And besides, shares took time to cash out. They were not about to hand them over so easily.
Better to part with 20 million in cash and stockpile supplies.
Sure enough, both Patricia and Jonathan showed relief.
Transfer it right now. Don’t make me regret this. Don’t tell me the Lowlands can’t even produce 20 million”
Caroline’s tone was ice–cold, every word deliberate.

Patricia’s gaze was sharp. “And if you take the money but still release the footage?”
“We’ll put it in writing. I can even film myself giving you my word. If I leak anything, you’ll have proof to hold me accountable, even throw me in prison.”
And just like that, Caroline’s engagement to the Lowlands was officially over.
A few phone calls later, 20 million landed in her account.
She signed the agreement, smashed the device in front of Jonathan and Renee, and deleted the cloud backup.
Everyone looked pleased.
“From today on, we’re done. Don’t ever come bothering me again.”
Caroline tossed the words coldly over her shoulder before walking out.
On her way out, she noticed the faint smirks still on their faces.
They thought they had scored a bargain since the shares and funds now fully belonged to them.
However, they had no idea that in a few months, that money would be nothing but waste paper.
As for the keepsake they had once given Caroline? Nobody asked for it back.
After all, it originally belonged to the Sinclairs.
And they had assumed it was not worth much.
No matter. At last, Caroline was completely free of the Lowlands.
Just outside, she spotted Zoe poking her head around. Caroline walked over and told her everything was settled.
Zoe rolled her eyes. “You owe me one.”

Caroline nodded. When the apocalypse came, she would make sure to warn Zoe, as that would be her way of repaying the
debt.
With the matter finished and the money in hand, Caroline felt a rush of satisfaction. She immediately called up a pharmaceutical rep she knew.
Medicine was always costly. Now that she had 20 million, she did not hold back when she was going over the list with the rep and buying more than two million worth of supplies in one go.
