He even mocked her, telling her to strip so he could “check out her figure” before deciding whether she was worth saving
Later, Caroline was luckily rescued by someone else and barely made it out alive.
“Caroline, back in school, everyone used to say you were some rich girl. Reese even told me you had stocks and funds in your name, plus a lot of cash. Honestly, with a girl like that, I didn’t dare chase after you. I was afraid I wouldn’t be good enough,” Henry said with a troubled sigh as they walked back after dinner.
Caroline finally understood what Reese was really up to.
So that was it–she had sent Henry to trick her out of the rest of her fund shares! And as for the 20 million Jonathan’s family had already forked out, he was probably still feeling the sting.
Now that she knew their game, Caroline felt calmer.
If they wanted to scheme against her, she was not about to hold back.
On their next meetings, Caroline made sure to choose open, crowded places–and she always brought Raven along.
She had quickly noticed that Henry’s hands were always wandering.
On their very first dinner, he had already tried to put his arm around her waist.
Later, during a call, he even suggested getting a hotel room.
Caroline had wanted to slap him then and there, but she forced herself to endure it for the sake of her bigger plan.
Her excuse? “My dog gets separation anxiety, so I have to bring it along.”
Raven, clever as ever, caught on immediately.
Whenever Henry tried to move closer, Raven would bare its teeth and growl, forcing Henry to keep a full meter’s distance.
After a few more meetings, when Henry’s patience was clearly wearing thin, Caroline finally sighed and said, “Actually, I do have some fund shares. I’ve been wanting to sell them cheap, but I don’t know how.”
At that, Henry’s eyes lit up. “I studied abroad for two years. I know a thing or two, so maybe I can help you.”
Caroline hid her smirk and put on a grateful look. “That’s great. Honestly, I just want to get rid of them quickly. I’ll let them go at two–thirds of the market price. I just need a reliable buyer.”
And just like that, Caroline sold off the rest of her shares–another 20 million–straight into the hands of the Lowlands.
Whether it all went to them directly or Henry got a cut, she did not care.
The important thing was, before long, that money would be worthless.
If she had tried selling everything herself, it would have taken months, with people trying to undercut her the whole way. She would have wasted time and maybe even ended up with less than what she got from the Lowlands.
If she had asked for a higher price, the Lowlands would rave dragged things out with endless bargaining. That, too, would,– have wasted her time.
This way, she got her cash upfront and bought herself time. Meanwhile, the Lowlands thought they had struck gold, happily handing over the money like they had gotten the deal of a lifetime.
In reality, they would soon be forced to liquidate their businesses and supply chains to cover the cost.
From what Caroline could tell, a lot of that chain was in food and restaurants. In the apocalypse, that meant the Lowlands were cutting off one of their last safety nets.
Let them enjoy their “victory” for a few days.

When Henry later asked why she was in such a rush to sell, Caroline put on the act of a clueless girl.

She said she was thinking about buying a house, maybe going abroad–basically rattling off nonsense like someone who had :been hurt and had no real plan for the future.
With the sale done and the money in her pocket, Caroline was ready to keep stocking up on supplies.
However, Henry was not finished.
One day, pretending to be a friend of hers, he lured Caroline to a wooded corner of the park.
The moment she got the message, she found it suspicious. Knowing this “friend” was close to Henry, she immediately realized what was going on. A perfect opportunity had just fallen right into her lap.
Sure enough, when she arrived, Henry was waiting, grinning from ear to ear.
He glanced around, noticed she had not brought Raven, and his smile widened.
“Heh, Caroline, we’ve known each other for so long. How about we finally make this official, huh?” he said, reaching out to grope her.
Caroline calmly glanced around. “Are there cameras nearby?”
Henry laughed, leaning in closer. “Don’t be shy. Relax, there aren’t any cameras here. And I didn’t tell anyone I was coming. It’s just you and me.”
Caroline’s lips curved into a cold smile. “Perfect.”
Before Henry even knew what was happening, Caroline had already pulled him straight into her storage space.
