Chapter 331: Degrading Solutions
Time was pressing once Caroline ushered Raven inside, leaving no room to hesitate. She swiftly gathered every available container she could find, tucking them carefully into her storage space. A few of the containers emitted a faint tremor, causing the storage area to shudder slightly—but the vibrations were nothing too alarming.
Caroline didn’t stop to inspect the upgrades; there simply wasn’t time. Instead, she led Raven and Jet out swiftly, aiming to rendezvous with Tyler’s group at the mall. However, upon arrival, she found the agreed meeting spot eerily empty—neither Denton nor Tyler was in sight.
The mall itself was a sprawling structure with seven floors, though due to the intense snowfall, only five floors remained buried under thick layers of snow. The plan had been to break a window on the east side and gather there, but Caroline was met only with shards of broken glass scattered on the ground.
Perplexed, she stood there, trying to make sense of their absence. Suddenly, Silver swooped down, flapping noisily and squawking as if eager to share news. Jet hurried over and exchanged a few words with the bird before turning back to Caroline. “Hey, Human, follow Silver! Looks like the other two found something interesting!”
Caroline nodded and followed Silver as it fluttered ahead. After making two turns and covering less than a hundred feet, they arrived at an unexpected sight—a small white prefab cabin parked right in the center of the mall’s open area. Denton and Tyler were pacing around it, clearly impressed.
When Caroline approached, Tyler waved her over enthusiastically. “Check this out.”
She circled the cabin twice, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Wait a minute—is this a liquid-ammonia freezer? And it’s portable?”
Indeed, the device was essentially a compact cold room, capable of rapidly chilling items and maintaining a steady temperature. Its mobility meant it could fit inside a storage space—an invaluable asset in their current situation.
Denton grinned as he explained, “When we first got here, we were waiting for you. Then this mutant snake showed up. We fought it for what felt like forever, but then we stumbled upon this. Tyler got super hyped—said this thing’s cooling power is next-level.”
But the freezer wasn’t the only treasure in this part of the mall. They were actually inside a hypermarket. Beside the freezer stood UV-sterilized water tanks, high-capacity batteries, ice makers, dishwashers, and an assortment of other gadgets and appliances.
Since Denton and Tyler had discovered the freezer, Caroline let Tyler claim it. The rest of the loot was divided among them. Denton clutched a dishwasher like it was his most prized possession. “Caroline, you don’t understand. Tyler always makes me wash the dishes. I’m so done with it… ah!”
Before he could finish, Tyler flicked him sharply on the head. Denton just rolled his eyes. “You’re hopeless,” Tyler muttered with a smirk.
