Chapter 340: Another Reborn

When Caroline finally heard that Handsy was expected to arrive at the rooftop by nightfall, a heavy weight lifted from her chest. At last, she could breathe a sigh of relief. Without his arrival, the entire building would have been restless, plagued by sleeplessness throughout the night. After all, no one wanted to glance up and catch sight of a massive, five-fingered leaf sliding eerily past their window—a vision straight out of a nightmare.

She quickly banished the unsettling image from her mind; dwelling on such things was pointless. It was far more productive to focus on the tasks ahead.

“Someone will help you carry your things upstairs later,” Caroline reassured Nelson with a gentle smile. “But first, let me take you to the lab on the 65th floor. I also want to introduce you to two other friends of mine.”

Together, Caroline and Nelson made their way upward, the elevator humming softly as it climbed floor by floor. Neither of them noticed the pair of sharp eyes watching their every move from a distance.

In Building B, hidden in the shadows, Crow—the leader of Obsidian Fang—held a pair of binoculars tightly. His gaze was fixed on Nelson’s face and the strange tree scaling the building. As he observed, his expression darkened with growing confusion and suspicion.

“Why is the story so different this time?” he muttered under his breath. “Why is Nelson even here?”

Like Caroline, Crow had been given a second chance at life—a rebirth with a purpose. In his previous life, Obsidian Fang had crumbled within three years after the apocalypse, its members falling one by one while he stood helpless.

Their downfall had come after provoking a powerful group of ability users, a mistake that cost him dearly. To make matters worse, Crow hadn’t died in battle or disaster but from cancer—a cruel and unexpected end. The thought of a second chance had never crossed his mind until now.

From the moment he was reborn, Crow began plotting meticulously. He vowed to find a safe haven, build his own empire, and recruit as many strong allies as possible to restore Obsidian Fang’s former glory. Most importantly, he was determined to exact his revenge.

And if fate allowed, he would find a cure for the cancer that had claimed his life.

He had spent these past years quietly strengthening his forces, learning from past mistakes by keeping a low profile. Unlike before, he maintained good relations with the army, understanding that open conflict would only hasten his downfall. Survival was his priority, and patience his greatest weapon.

As for his cancer, two names surfaced in his mind.

One was the army’s renowned Dr. Sinclair, and the other was Nelson.
