Caroline took a deep breath and let out two small tears. “You said I should give myself a few days to calm down … I’ve just been missing my parents a lot lately.”

Jonathan tried to step closer, but Raven suddenly stood up, showing his teeth and standing right in front of him.

Jonathan stumbled back. “Caroline, when did you get such a big dog?”

Caroline secretly gave Raven a thumbs–up in her heart. Good boy! He can even tell I don’t like Jonathan.

“I just adopt him. I live alone, so having him here makes me feel safer.” She gently patted the soft fur on Raven’s neck.

“If you don’t like being alone, you could always come live with me.”

The moment Jonathan said that, Caroline wanted to spit on him. Ugh, seriously?

Last time, when the apocalypse hit, Jonathan came, to her with a bunch of supplies, saying he wanted to survive together.

But that night, he showed his true colors. He only came because he wanted to sleep with her.

Caroline was a bit naive, but she didn’t just agree right away. She wanted to take things slowly.

That night, Jonathan didn’t want to wait. He even tried to force himself on her.

In a panic, Caroline grabbed something and smashed it on his head.

Jonathan went completely crazy. He cursed

sed at her, called her a worthless woman, and accused her of pretending to be pure. He said if she didn’t give in, she’d end up with

some random guy.

Caroline was furious. She tried to kick him out. But as he left, Jonathan pushed her to the ground, took all the supplies he brought, and even stole that ring!

All because Reese said she liked antique stuff!

Later, just before Caroline almost died, Jonathan leaned close and whispered that Reese was way better than her.

Caroline clenched her fists and bit her lip so hard that she wouldn’t punch him right now.

Jonathan, this is my parents‘ house. I only feel safe here,” she said.

Jonathan wanted to say something, but Caroline raised her voice. “Aren’t we supposed to get engaged? Can you give me back the shares and funds my parents left me? Lately, I keep dreaming they’re blaming me. That’s why I’ve been upset and blocked you. I just don’t want to see you right now.”

Just like she expected, Jonathan’s expression changed when she said that.

“Caroline, don’t think too much. If your parents knew about the engagement, they’d be happy. The shares and funds will be ours when we marry. I’d never betray you. Anyway, I have things to do. Take me off your block list, okay? We’re getting engaged in a few months.”

Caroline sneered inside. Yeah, this engagement isn’t happening.

Jonathan left just like that

Caroline watched him walk away with a cold smile. Scumbag, just wait.

After taking care of Raven, she checked the time. It was already two in the afternoon,

All afternoon, the doorbell kept ringing. Each time, Raven would sit up, ears alert, watching the door like a guard.

Caroline put all the deliveries in her storage space, leaving only one set of braised short ribs to eat.

Raven sat next to her, quiet but staring at the ribs in her plate wth his big eyes.

She had no choice but to pick out the biggest rib and hold it out. “Want this?”

Raven tilted his head, looking adorably dumb, like he was thinking, Of course!

He bit that big rib and swallowed it in one bite.

Wow, this dog could really eat!

While waiting for the next delivery, Caroline sat inside with the air conditioner on. She pulled out a small notebook and started planning what to do next

If she remembered correctly, the apocalypse would happen like this: first acid rain, then big floods.

After that, the temperature would drop suddenly, down to -140°F.

At that time, a huge number of people died.

After the heavy snowstorms and freezing cold, the weather would suddenly switch to extreme heat, up to 122°F!

These creatures could get into any place they wanted.

That’s when the real apocalypse began.

Thinking about everything that had happened, Caroline felt even more determined to live her second life well!

She remembered the seeds she had planted in the black soil in her storage space last night and went to check on them.

What she saw shocked her!

Where she had planted the seeds, there was now a plush pillow!

It looked like a flower.

Caroline pulled it out using her mind and squeezed it in her hands. It was definitely a plush pillow.

But how did it end up in her storage space?

She was confused, but also had some guesses.

Could this black soil grow all kinds of strange things?

Thinking that, Caroline pulled a weed from a flowerpot and threw it in.

Meanwhile, after leaving Caroline’s house, Jonathan called Reese, still fuming.

“What’s wrong, Jonathan?” Reese asked, noticing the irritation in his voice. She tried to sound gentle and caring.

“Do you think that stupid Caroline has figured something out? She actually mentioned her parents‘ shares and funds today. She used to do whatever I said, but now she’s blocked me!”

Reese was putting on makeup, getting ready to go out to dinner with Jonathan. She was so surprised that her eyebrow pencil slipped, messing up her perfect brow.

She wiped it away, a little annoyed, but still spoke softly, “Jonathan, you’re overthinking. Caroline has always been kind of dumb. I asked her the other day who would handle the money after you got married, and she said she’d let you manage her half of the funds and shares. She didn’t suspect a thing.”

In Reese’s eyes, Caroline was just a naive fool. She and Jonathan had been secretly seeing each other for years, and Caroline never noticed a thing.

Not only that, Reese had been brainwashing her, making her believe men should be in charge of the money. And since Caroline was an orphan and engaged to the Lowlands, Reese said it was the luckiest thing that could happen to her.

Because of all that manipulation, Caroline was completely loyal to Jonathan. Even when she worked summer jobs, she gave him all her pay and always bought him gifts whenever she saw something nice.

Basically, Caroline had always been this pitiful girl, doing whatever Jonathan wanted.

She had no idea that the Lowlands‘ kindness was fake. If it weren’t for her half shares and funds, they would have thrown her out long ago.

The Lowlands, who always seemed so successful, actually had some debt problems. They desperately needed Caroline’s shares and funds. That’s why they were rushing the engagement, so that they could get all her money and shares.

But Caroline had no idea about any of this.

Jonathan responded, “Yeah, no one changes that fast. I’m probably overthinking. Are you ready? I’ll be at your place soon. Don’t go home tonight, okay? Hehehe!”
