**The Unseen Kingdom That Followed Me Into Every Dream by Alyndra Meron Valeen 121**
“You’re coming back this week? Have you finally settled that problem abroad?” Claire’s voice was bright, laced with curiosity and a hint of excitement.
“Yeah, more or less. Just two more days, and I should be free of it all. God, if it weren’t for that absolute jerk, I wouldn’t have had to deal with this mess for so long!” I replied, the weariness in my voice betraying the frustration I felt. “But enough about that. It’s been ages since we’ve spent time together like best friends. You better mark our date on your calendar!” I could almost hear the anticipation in her response.
“Okay!” she chirped, her enthusiasm infectious.
Claire nestled deeper into her blanket, her gaze drifting to a photograph resting on her bedside table. A sweet, girlish smile danced on her lips, a reflection of the joy that our friendship brought her.
I had just wrapped up a detailed market analysis when a message from Baron pinged on my phone, pulling me from my thoughts.
Baron: (Master? I have assembled a team of skilled, reliable workers from my company for your consideration. I just emailed their CVs. Please take a look.)
Baron: [Lucas has completed half the paperwork necessary to establish your company. Will you be available tomorrow? We need to finalize the address for your business to proceed with the necessary procedures. Once we complete that and a bit more paperwork, voila! Your company will officially launch this week!]
I hadn’t anticipated Baron would move so swiftly. I quickly replied with a brief “OK!” and started scrolling through the CVs he had sent.
Each document reflected his high standards and meticulous attention to detail. The candidates were impressive, each showcasing a wealth of talent and experience, with no glaring weaknesses in sight. I felt a wave of satisfaction wash over me.
Once I organized everything to my liking, I decided it was time to call it a night. I had barely stepped out of my unit when my phone rang. It was Lucas, who was already downstairs waiting for me.
Noticing my puzzled expression, he quickly explained, “Mr. Goldman is currently tied up with some PR-related tasks, so he won’t be able to join you for a while. I’ll be assisting you instead. I hope that’s alright, Mr. Grimwald.”
It was Mila Koch, Hera’s college classmate and now her closest confidante. During my five years of marriage, Mila had never missed an opportunity to belittle me in front of Hera. She seemed to take pleasure in the notion that my job as a firefighter somehow rendered me less worthy, merely a shadow to her best friend’s brilliance.
I couldn’t recall a single moment when she had shown me even a semblance of respect.
Who would have imagined that she would end up as a property saleswoman?
Annoyance flickered in my eyes as I replied, “I’m here to inspect this office building.”
Mila’s sneer deepened, her expression a mixture of disbelief and derision. “Wait, you?” she scoffed, clearly unable to hide her contempt.
What a delightful reunion this was turning out to be.
