Baron shot a sharp look at the security guards. They immediately understood what to do.
Suddenly, I found myself surrounded once again, welcomed into the elevator as if I were a president flanked by bodyguards.
“We sincerely apologize for the trouble, Mr. Grimwald. Our hall manager was not at her best today.”
“Please forgive our misunderstanding, sir.”
“We were only following orders from our immediate supervisor, Mr. Grimwald. I’m sure you understand.”
They practically pushed me into the elevator. One guard stepped inside with me.
Behind the crowd, I heard Baron call out, “Don’t trouble our esteemed guest. I want Mr. Grimwald to reach his room safely and comfortably, without any obstruction. By the way, if you need anything, just call us from the phone in your room. All our services are free. Consider it our way to make up for the trouble.”
The door closed.
I sensed something was off about Baron’s sudden change, but after all his “compensations,” pressing the issue would only make me seem petty. I decided to let this misadventure go.
Outside our room, a few guards stood waiting.
I frowned. “What’s this?”
I knew it. That Goldman fella must have planned to meet Rhea and then some. So why the sudden change in his attitude?
The guard with me grimaced. “Oh, please, allow me.”
He strode over to his colleagues, slapped the backs of their heads, and whispered something into their ears.
When the guards looked up, their expressions had changed. They quickly stepped aside from the door and avoided eye contact. There you go, sir. Please enjoy your stay. We hope you forgive our earlier mistake.”
The guards chuckled awkwardly, turned on their heels, and dashed away as if dodging an explosion.
I stood outside the door, baffled. What the hell was that?
“Weirdos,” I muttered.
I decided to let Rhea handle her situation. We could always switch hotels once she recovered.
The door suddenly opened. Rhea appeared, her clothes disheveled, eyes heavy with sleep. She threw herself into my arms.
“You’re back! Finally back! You were gone so long, I thought you didn’t want me anymore! I heard so many footsteps that I was terrified!” Her voice trembled with tears.
I hesitated but didn’t pull away. “It’s over now. How did you know I was right behind the door?”
“I heard you talking,” she said cheerfully, smiling.
Her smile was innocent but, paired with her blush and eyes, dangerously seductive. She looked as stunning as Hera.
“Why are you staring at me like that? Have you started falling for me?” She grinned smugly.
I snapped out of it. “In your dreams, Rhea. Let’s get inside. I brought your medicine.”
I poured her a glass of water and watched her swallow the tablet.
