Chapter 41
Baron could almost see his future collapsing if this kept up.
Amy was utterly baffled. This random stranger was about to sleep with her employer’s fiancée! Why was Baron obsessing over his surname?
“Er… I think it’s ‘Grimwald,‘ sir,” she replied.
Grimwald? A last name starting with G and R? On a man whose face resembled the young man in the photo after he’d aged?
Baron never wanted a coincidence like this. He nearly wet himself.
This man was ‘him,‘ wasn’t he? The very person his superiors had ordered him to find. And what on earth were his people doing to this VVIP?!
Baron considered himself lucky to have arrived just in time before things spiraled completely out of control. There was still hope. Had he hesitated for a moment, his security guards might have punched the man, and then he would have had no choice but to prepare a gravestone for Baron Inc. and The Baron’s Hotel. And, of course, for himself.
“Mr. Goldman?” Amy noticed the color draining from his face and grew concerned. “Are you alright?”
“See if you’re alright with this!” he suddenly roared, slapping Amy across the cheek.
The hall echoed with the sharp crack.
Everything froze in her–except for her tears.
“W–Why?” she whispered.
“Why? Why? No, I should be the one asking why!” Baron exploded, glaring at the security guards around me. “Why are you idiots treating our esteemed guest like this? Is this a hotel or a mafia den? What would happen if I didn’t show up? What kind of grave mistakes would you have made?”
Baron stormed toward the guards and started kicking them to the floor.
“Each of you idiots is losing three months‘ wages! Every single one of you!” he barked. “Lunatics! What kind of hospitality business has their guest surrounded, threatening him with violence?”
It was the most dramatic twist imaginable.
The security, Amy, and I were too stunned to comprehend what had just happened.
I studied Baron’s pudgy face, wrinkled with panic but forced into an ingratiating smile, and felt confused. “Are you the owner of this hotel?”
I knew he and his people were in the wrong, but was this extreme overreaction really necessary?
“Yes, my most esteemed guest! I’m very, very sorry for this. My people clearly need a lesson in hospitality and respect. I apologize deeply!”
He suddenly bowed slightly to me, right there in public.
“Er… Are you engaged to Rhea Canien? Does she know?” I asked.
Baron’s attitude made me uneasy, but I had to ask the most important question.
Baron shivered. Panic flashed across his face, but he forced a look of confusion. “Engaged? To me? Why, I’ve never heard of that!

The hall reeled in shock. Even I glanced at a pale Amy, who pressed her hand to her reddened cheek.

She started weakly, “But you—”
Baron shot her a deadly glare. “Quit making things up, Lowry, or today will be your last day at work!”
He turned back to me with a sugary smile. “Mr. Grimwald, weren’t you about to return to your room? Please do. I promise no one will disturb you, inside or out.”
