“Sebastian didn’t believe me at all, no matter how true it was. There was nothing between us. Bobby isn’t even my flesh and blood. It’s all because of those photos and videos!” Hera grumbled.
She hadn’t noticed Edmund’s expression darken. ‘So this is why she has been avoiding or outright ignoring my invitations. It’s all because of Sebastian.‘
That mediocre fool who arrived late and somehow became her husband mattered more to Hera than her first love. It was unbelievable, yet the truth was plain on his face. He had lost.
“What do you see in him anyway, Hera? Why not just let the divorce happen? I’ve never stopped loving you all these years. He’s the one who came between us, not the other way around,” Edmund argued, desperate not to give up while she remained emotionally vulnerable. “Please, just divorce him. After that, we can be a real family.”
Back when Sebastian was still with her, Hera always followed Edmund’s lead. But now?
“Don’t suggest that, Ed. We can’t be friends if you cross that line. I know the difference between my first love and my husband,” she said firmly.
Edmund couldn’t believe what he heard.
“What? You don’t like me?” he cried out. “Then why did you agree to adopt Bobby?”
“Because we never had a child of our own, and I didn’t want to pressure him anymore. Besides, I genuinely feel sorry for Bobby,” she replied.
Edmund felt as if struck by lightning. “B–But why did you agree to come to the hotel? Why let me stay at your house?”
“Nothing happened between us at the hotel. I wanted you to stay because I worried Bobby might struggle being separated from his biological father so suddenly. It was only temporary,” she explained.
Edmund’s face turned pale, his voice trembling. “W–What about that bar trip? You were throwing yourself at me!”
“I did that to try to provoke Sebastian into staying with me. I arranged for someone to film us so he’d see it on social media. But he didn’t even seem to care,” she answered flatly.
Edmund was at a loss for words. For the first time, he felt like a joke.
After a long pause, he forced a smile. “So, what are you saying? That we can’t actually try? Is that it?”
Hera’s eyes sparkled with joy. “A try? That’s a good idea!”
“I knew it. You were just losing your mind for a second.” He sighed in relief, certain he could never lose to that latecomer.
“No, that’s not what I meant. I think you should try explaining things to Sebastian. Maybe he’ll believe you. Come on, Ed! If you can convince him, we can still be friends.”
Edmund felt like he was about to explode. She saw him only as a tool to win over that nobody!
